Since the first two sets of BBOC cards were big sellers, Ty released
Series III in July 1999, featuring new looks and new card types.
You'll find eight trading cards and a checklist in a pack, plus a
sticker card showing three Beanies (peelable and stickable) on a scenic
background.
Common cards have a new look in Series III. The Beanie's name is in
large letters, and the animal type is excluded on the front. The style
number is printed on a Hoof Print, Bear Print, Bird Print, Dragon Print,
Duck Print, Dog Print, Cat Print, Heart, Horseshoe, or Shell. On the back
is the birthday, introduction date, poem, and facts written by Ty, the
National Wildlife Federation and Ranger Rick Magazine. Numbered 58 to 157,
these cards will be a perfect addition to any trading card collection.

A new type of card in Series III, Wild Cards spotlight the creatures
in the Beanie Babies collection. The Beanie is printed full color on a
holofoil background. The back of each card reads the card number, name,
birthday, introduction date, retirement date (if retired during Series
III's release), and Wild Facts about the animal. To determine rarity in
Series III, there are the colors teal (most common), magenta, silver, and
gold (least common). A circle of holofoil stars around the Beanie is how
you can find out how rare your wild card is. If you had gold stars around
the Beanie on your wild card, you have a gold mine (literally) and you'll
see stars if you sell it... get it? Odds of finding one is 1 in 3 packs.

Series III Birthday cards are alike with Series II Birthday Cards but,
with few exceptions. The name is formatted vertically rather than
horizontally and the letters are larger. The birthday is shown at the
bottom. In Series II the birth date was shown on top. Also the Rookie
stamp is vertical and not horizontal, as shown on Series III cards Clubby
II, Eucalyptus, Knuckles, and Schweetheart. Also the card number is on the
back and not the front. Both front and back sides are printed vertical; in
Series II the front was vertical and the back was horizontal. On the back
of each card you'll find the birthday, issue date, and a fact about an
event or birthday that took place on that Beanie's birthday. In Series II
the poem was shown, but the poem is not featured in Series III. Like
Series III, the color of foil on the name of the Beanie is how you
determine the Beanie's degree of difficulty: either teal, magenta, silver
or gold. Odds of finding one is 1 in 5 packs. Don't think a gold card will
pop up in your pack instantly!

Can you beat the odds with these cards? Another new card type for BBOC
cards, Beanies and Buddies cards spotlight Beanie Buddies and their Beanie
Baby counterparts. Odds of finding these types of cards are 1 in 12 packs.
Once again, the cards' difficulty can be determined in foil colors teal,
magenta, silver or gold. Each card is die-cut to resemble a puzzle piece.
The Beanie or Buddy is printed in full color on the front with its name,
animal type, the line name (either Beanie Babies or Beanie Buddies) and
half of the Ty heart ("T" on Beanies, "Y" on Buddies). The back has the
style number, birthday, introduction date, card number, poem, copyright
date, and "Look for matching Beanie Buddy" or "Baby" card message.

Another new type of card for Series III... Classic Common cards! The
Classic Common cards are identical to those in Series I and Series II,
with the exception of the "Classic Common" foil appearing on the front of
each card. No colored foil degrees of difficulty determine Classic Common
cards. Each Classic Common card spotlights a Beanie who did not have a
common card in Series I or II. The front of the cards are the same as
regular commons in Series I and II only that the cards read "Series III."
Unlike in Series I and II, when the set was made up mostly of these cards,
finding a Series III Classic Common is in 1 in 24 packs. |
|
The hardest cards to find in Series III are Retired cards. Odds of
finding one are 1 in 72 packs. Odds were 1 in 7 in Series I and 1 in 5 in
Series II, but these cards are extremely popular! Once again, the cards
spotlight retired Beanie Babies. Each card is die-cut but not like the
Beanies/Buddies cards; the cards do not resemble puzzle pieces. The Beanie
is printed full color on a monochrome background, either teal, magenta,
silver, or gold, determining the card's degree of difficulty.
And finally, common cards may increase in value if they have on the
front of the card, a stamp reading "Ty Artist's Proof." You can find one
in each pack! |
|
There has been 404 autographed cards produced in Series III, one of
every card being signed by Ty Warner, owner and CEO of Ty Inc. All
autographed cards are numbered 1/1 and are signed "ty" with a gold paint
pen. There is also a small clear TY heart embossed on top of each
signature. |
|
A case of 24 packs includes a tear-a-bear card. The package features
the faces of a colored teddy, and inside is a trading card reading
"Limited Edition". They feature Ty's sit-up bears in a series of special
cards, with #1 Bear being the most difficult to acquire.
If you find a retailer's box of trading cards (containing an order of
trading card cases), you can find one of three "Issued Cards" featuring
the Beanies issued on a certain date. In this series you can find 6/25/94,
1/7/95 and 6/3/95.
Hopefully you can collect them all! The more the Beanies, the more the
cards!
