'Ask Ty'
Year '2001'
On June 26, 2001, the Ty Website sported a
whole new look. Along with the new appearance, Ty offered 'Ty
Store' (where you had a chance to buy a new Beanie Baby Bear -
'Tradee', as well as Speckles; the BBOT (Beanie Board of Trade)
was introduced, and 'Ask Ty'!
With 'Ask Ty', five chosen questions
are posted ... vote for your preferred question that you would
like Ty to answer. Ty will later pick a question and post the
answer.

June 26 (First 'Ask Ty' Q & A)
Q:
Why did you create "Ask Ty"? (submitted by grandmaev)
A: Hi There! I'm
glad that you asked that question! As you know, I read the Ty
Talk "Cyberboard" on a regular basis and enjoy chatting
with you there from time to time. Since I love seeing all of your
questions but can't possibly answer them all, I thought that Ask
Ty would be a fun way to answer at least some of them. Of course,
I'll still stop by the Cyberboard every now and then and chat
with you there! I can't wait to see what your questions will be.

Q:
Do you have a favorite Beanie Baby design? What is it? (submitted
by rccarter)
A: Every Beanie,
in every way, was created to reach a certain spot in someone's
heart. Hopefully, I've touched that special spot in your heart.

Q:
How much attention do you pay to what is posted on the boards?
(submitted by tokalaska)
A: I try to read
what is posted on the boards every single day. Your thoughts,
ideas and feelings (good or bad) help me decide what new
surprises you can expect from me in the future.
July 13
Q:
How long does the process of creating a Beanie take...from idea
to finished product? (submitted by beanykid)
A: It has taken
me as little as one month to as long as 2-1/2 years to design one
Beanie Baby from start to finish. The process of choosing a
special name, writing a perfect poem and choosing the correct
fabrics varies from Beanie to Beanie. The length of time depends
on how many changes I decide to make before I am satisfied that
it is ready to be added to the rest of the collection.

Q:
For the birthdays of the Beanie Babies, how do you choose the
date? Is there any special meaning to their birthday? (submitted
by angel_girl89)
A: In the
beginning, I chose the birthdays of a few special employees.
Later on, I asked my closest friends if they would like their
birthdays used on a Beanie and every one of them happily agreed.
Now I try to include the birthdays of many people I have met over
the past several years.

Q: Sorry, but I just have
to ask....boxers or briefs? You said "the sky's the
limit", right? (submitted by TyLuvR)
A: Well, I sure
didnt think this question would win but it just goes to
show that maybe I should expect the unexpected too! I wear 2Xist
and how about we just leave it at that!

Q: How and when do you determine a Beanie's
retirement date? Is it spur of the moment or planned in advance,
like when it's released? (submitted by CelticQueen)
A:
The timing of what retires is very
impromptu and spur of the moment. Even I don't know sometimes
what I'm going to do - until I do it! I like to keep everyone
guessing and anticipating and then do the unexpected.

Q: What can we look forward to from you in
2002? (submitted by ariel1)
A: You know for
sure that you can always "expect the unexpected", I
can't be specific because I want it to be a surprise, but here's
a hint: Something worldwide and very special will start at the
beginning of next year.
PUT ON YOUR THINKING CAPS!

Q: What should BBOC members
look forward to? Will there be any changes in the BBOC coming
soon? (submitted by **Mellow**)
A: Get ready for
lots of exciting changes. There will be a brand new club kit,
exciting new exclusive offers for club members and some neat
surprises. October will be here real soon and I think you'll be
in for a real treat!

"I received so many questions I felt that you were truly confused. So I decided to answer all of them to help you better understand."
Q: Everyone says it will cost me $5,000.00
to receive the next exclusive Beanie, is that true? (submitted by
good2bqueen)
A: Of course not. According to
MBNA, last year the average amount spent by an individual on a
credit card was $5,941.00. Very simply, you'll spend more than
$5,000 using a credit card, so why not use a Ty MasterCard and
get something in return . . . like the next exclusive Beanie free
!
Q:
Will the free M.C.bear offer and MasterCard be available in the
U.K.? (submitted by paulp)
A:
Yes
it will. Not only in the U.K. but also in many other countries as
well.
Q: Why have a MasterCard Beanie Bear if
Beanies are suppose to be for children? (submitted by Glory4me)
A:
Beanies
ARE for children, but because they have become the #1 Collectable
in the World, I realize that many adults enjoy them as well. I
thought . . . why not create a Beanie that those over the age of
17 can initially collect for themselves or choose to give to a
child. Bringing happiness to all ages isn't easy . . . but I'm
trying !
Q: Can you open a MasterCard account
anywhere else apart from on the Internet to get M.C.Beanie?
(submitted by scobbydee)
A:
Yes
you can ! The Internet is just one of the places you can go to
open a Ty MasterCard. You can call MBNA at 1-800-932-2775 and ask
about the Ty MasterCard and look for applications very soon at
all your favorite Ty retailers.
Q: Why did you create the MasterCard Bear?
(submitted by patandmegan)
A:
3
out of 4 Americans over the age of 17 use a credit card. So I
thought it would be fun to make a Ty MasterCard. I negotiated
with MBNA (the largest independent credit card company in the
world) to not only offer you outstanding terms such as $0.00
annual fee and $0.00 liability for unauthorized use of your card,
but also to give you some very special and valuable rewards. For
example, if you use your Ty MasterCard just one time, you will
receive a collectable Beanie Baby designed exclusively for
MasterCard "absolutely free". You also are
automatically enrolled in our rewards program that gives you
points for every dollar you spend on the card. You can then
redeem your points for special Ty merchandise available only
through the Ty MasterCard program. Doesn't it make sense that if
you're going to use a credit card . . . use one that gives you
something in return?

Q: Do you often visit other Beanie sites? Also,do you appreciate
the effort and time spent in doing them? (submitted by
beaniebj2000)
A: I try to visit other Beanie
sites as often as I can because it is very important for me to be
aware of everyone's opinion. Every site is unique and different
and I greatly appreciate the new and valuable insights they
provide.
September 12
Q: Are there really different noses on M.C.
Beanie? Is that a mistake or did you plan it? (submitted by
a.dingo.ate.my.beanie)
A: Yes, there are
three different noses on M.C. Beanie. Out of three original
designs, no one could decide which one was the cutest so all
three were put into production!
September 20
Q: Will you ever do another promotion with
McDonald's? (submitted by beachbumb)
A: McDonalds has
told us that our Teenie Beanie Babies were the most successful
promotion in their history. If we put together a program that
makes sense for everyone, especially our loyal fans, I'm all for
it.
September 27
Q: Will you make enough of the Beanie Baby
America so that everyone who wants one can get one? (submitted by
graycebug)
A: I introduced America the Beanie
Baby with the idea that everyone would have the opportunity to
contribute and to know that they helped in this time of need. I
will produce as many America Beanie Babies as you are willing to
purchase. Together, I believe we can truly make a difference in
the lives of many.

Q: How did TY begin ? (submitted by Sam V)
A: I felt that if
I wanted to start my own company I would have to design and
manufacture a unique well-made gift item that didnt already
exist in the marketplace. In 1985 I took out a 2nd mortgage on my
2-bedroom condo in order to purchase my first shipment. What
followed . . . . even surprised me ! !
October 11
Q: How many America Beanies will you sign? Will
you have other celebrity signed auctions as well? (submitted by
BelleofLouisville)
A:
The
AMERICA Bear that was auctioned off to support the Red Cross will
be the last that I personally sign. Because of the Bear's great
success in raising money I am considering introducing something
new and special in the near future. Keep your eye on . . . .
Ty.com !
October 22
Q: Will you publish your own bean bag magazine?
(submitted by NE120)
A: We all know
Beanie magazines are lots of fun. Since MaryBeth left us, we've
all been a little sad - but don't forget to "expect the
unexpected".
October 26
Q: Why doesn't the TY store ship Beanie
Babies to Canada? (submitted by waddells)
A: I am happy to
announce that this week we opened the Ty Store to Canada. To our
Canadian customers, thank you for your patience. To the rest of
our customers around the world . . . . soon, very soon !
November 2
Q: Do you keep one of every Beanie you
design for yourself as a souvenir? (submitted by *Classy_Gal_13*)
A: From Royal Blue
Peanut to the November Birthday Bear, I believe I have them all.
In fact, there is only one thing that I like better than
designing Beanie Babies . . . . and that's collecting them !
November 9
Q: TY, What are your thoughts about
retailers opening and resealing the BBOC Club Kits? (submitted by
~~SILVER EAGLE~~)
A:
Our
retailers should not open the kits. I sealed the container to
keep Clubbie's button a surprise. Let's all do our best not to
ruin the surprise.
November 16
Q: Are you going to have more new Beanies on
the shelf by Christmas? (submitted by beanieluv999)
A:
Let's
just say that I plan on putting a little sizzle into your
holidays !
November 22
Q: Will you ever release a Series 5
collector card edition? (submitted by lvmymn)
A:
I've
been so busy with some great new . . . . I'll just say IDEAS,
that I haven't had a chance to even think about a new series.
November 30
Q: Do you have an ID on the Ty Talk
Cyberboard? (submitted by cheezer.625)
A:
I
certainly do and I'm sure that some of you have seen my posts.
Keep a close eye on the boards and you might just see something
from . . . . Ty Warner.
December 7
Q: Do you get free Beanie Babies if you work
at Ty? (submitted by evankb88)
A: I created
several very special Beanie Babies for my Employees. In 1997 all
Employees received a purple Beanie Baby Bear that is known today
as the 97 Employee Bear. If you worked for me in 1998 through
2001 you would be the proud owner of all 4 Billionaire Bears.
December 14
Q: Rumor has it that someone other than you
is running Ty. Is this true? (submitted by beansNfranks)
A: This morning I
met with my Management Staff, I reviewed our 2001 achievements
and put plans in motion for some great surprises next year. You
can be certain that as long as my name is on the product . . . .
I am very much involved.
December 21
Q: How many Clubby IV's did you sign?
(submitted by JoLuvsTy)
A:
I
can tell you that I gave out more of the Billionaire 4s
than I signed Clubby IVs. Something else you may find
interesting, the Gold Autographed button is the rarest of them
all. Happy Holidays !
December 28
Q: Give us a hint. What is coming for 2002?
(submitted by Beaniebunny)
A:

a couple of hinits: Great designs, new fabrics . . . . maybe a
teenie twist and a few surprises along the way. I'm looking
forward to 2002 and wish you all the best in this coming New
