CHhugs - The Big Update!

Well it may have seemed to have gone a bit quiet where CHhugs is concerned - but behind the scenes, believe me,  there has been a lot going on! Due to the success of the auctions at eBay and also to your generosity, donating all the beanies which were signed, etc etc we have the greatest pleasure to announce the following hospices have all now heard of CHhugs!

Acorn Children's Trust at Walsall - a donation of £200 and 20 beanies
Acorn Children's Trust at Selly Oak - a donation of £200 and 20 beanies
Brian House at Blackpool - a donation of £200 and 50 beanies
Butterwick Children's Hospice at Stockton-on-Tees - a donation of £200 and 20 beanies
Children's Hospice  South West - a donation of £200 and 50 beanies
Claire House at Bebbington, Wirral - a donation of £200 and 30 beanies
Demelza House at Rochester - a donation of £200 and 40 beanies
Derian House at Preston - a donation of £200 and 30 beanies
Francis House at Stockport - a donations of £200 and 30 beanies
Helen House at Oxford - a donation of £200 and 50 beanies
Little Haven at Westcliff-on-Sea - a donation of £200 and 40 beanies
Martin House at Leeds - a donation of £200 and 50 beanies
Naomi House at Winchester - a donation of £200 and 30 beanies
Rachel House at Kinross - a donation of £200
Rainbows Children's Hospice at Loughborough - a donation of £200 and 40 beanies
Ty Hafan Children's Hospice at Barry - a donation of £200 and 30 beanies
Iain Rennie Hospice at Home Service at Tring - a donation of £100
Chase Children's Hospice Service at Guilford - a donation of £200
Richard House Trust at London - a donation of £100
James House Hospice  Trust at Burwash Common E. Sussex - a donation of £100
Northern Ireland Hospice Children's Service at Belfast - a donation of £200

That makes a total of just under £4000 in financial donations and over 500 beanies!

Those who have not received beanies this time will be first on the list in the next batch of donations. Also you will notice some amounts are larger than others - we tried to do it based on the size of the hospice and also the fact that some of the hospices do things like surprise birthday gifts for their children, some include the siblings too. In all cases we stressed that it was the wish of CHhugs that the beanies go to the children and also to their siblings.
You will also notice that a few of the donations are for £100 instead of £200. These are hospice at home services which do not yet have a building to upkeep, and they look after children in their homes. This is still a vital service, but with not quite the running costs and overheads of the others.  In two cases though, Chase and Northern Ireland, they are currently getting ready to open hospices houses this very summer and autumn - hence the extra money.
Also you might like to know that Helen House are currently fund raising to open a second hospice aimed at young people aged 16 - 40 and also Martin House is currently fundraising to open a teenagers hospice to be called "A Place For Us" as they said
"We understand that teenagers want to have their own space, play their stereos loud and watch videos half the night! Being terminally ill doesn't stop that - that is why we want to build them a place of their own."
I think you will agree that is a terrific idea and it is great that CHhugs is able to help in some small way!

Don't forget that we have also already donated to
East Anglian Children's Hospice group at Milton, Ipswich and Quiddenham, also Eden Valley Hospice at Carlisle, Hope House in Shropshire, and Malcolm Sergeant House up there in Scotland.

If there is a hospice we have not mentioned above and you would like them included in our next donations let us know!

This is just the beginning! Thanks to you all CHhugs has done better than we ever imagined! You all deserve a huge big pat on the back!

A British woman, who used to be part of a Beanie mailing list, has created her own Beanie Baby children's charity. CHhugs was set up by a group of Beanie Baby enthusiasts through the Brit Beanz mailing list.  Shelley Moore is the founder and charity coordinator. She and a group of Beanie Baby fanatics decided to make the most of their collections by putting surplus Beanies to good use.  By auctioning them online, they soon found a way of making money, which they could directly donate to hospices around the UK. With celebrity-signed Beanies among its stock (by the likes of Bob Hope and Kate Winslet), CHugs is using eBay to auction off its extra special Beanies.

November 27, 2000 ...
The auctions will end on December 4th, for a Christmas break. CHhugs will still be sending out packets for signing, sorting letters, etc. in the interim, for a big start in 2001. Some big names coming up soon ... Matthew Pinscent and Steve Redgrave ... to name just a couple. (I would have loved to have won the auction for the JK Rowling signed Wizard. Shhhh ... don't tell my son!)
