  ....   Bears are Identified
On Thursday, one of our readers (David) shared photos of two old Ty Bears he could not identify (see below).  Thanks to Myra, Sandra, and Tammy for their efforts in helping determine what they are.

Tammy writes:
Hi Deb,  I think I can help David from UK with those bears....they were the precursors of the beanie babies and were produced from 1986 thru 1991.  They were jointed and called "beanie bears".  The ones he shows are the 12 inch ones.  (They also came in 15 inches and called big beanie bears.)  They are listed under Classics in some of the collector books.  The dark  brown one is style #5101 and came out and retired in 1991.  The light one is style #5000 and came out in 1988 and retired in 1990.  They were very valuable a few years back but are not selling for that much now unless they have the hang tags and are in mint condition.  Some sold for hundreds of dollars just a few years back!  They still sell well if adveritsed correctly.  He can check auctions on ebay to see what they are selling for.  I've always wondered why Ty does not list them on their website??? The new 20th anniversary classic cats announced today are replicas of the original ones Ty produced back in 1987 which were out the same time as these beanie bears.
Hope this helps.  Thanks,  Tammy in Seattle

... Doodle's note:  After reading Tammy's note, I looked in my 1999 Edition CheckerBee Collector's Value Guide.  They are listed in the book under 'Ty Plush' (Classics).  (Somehow I missed it when first checking ... thanks, Tammy)

  ....   And They Are ...... ?
OK, can you help David?  One of our readers has emailed photos of two old Ty Bears in an attempt to identify each of them.  If you can help him, please drop me an email and I'll gladly pass along the information.  (I'm a little stumped on this one, too.)

David writes:

Hi Doodles
Please see the photos attached of 2 old ty bears.  One has 1987 on it's tush tag the other has 1990.  Neither of them has a hang tag.  These belong to my nieces who were given them when they were babies.  Both bears have been kept tucked away and apart from not having swing tags are in mint condition.  I was wondering if you or any of you readers could shed any light on them, perhaps their names and possible value.  If you put an article on your website please do not post my email address but please kindly forward any replies you get.
Hope you can help.
Thanks and Very Best Wishes

  ....   New Look Coming
There will soon (hopefully) be a new look to this website.  I intend to eliminate the 'frames' and some of the java scripting to help the website launch a little quicker.  It is a time-consuming process, and I (unfortunately) do not have a lot of 'free' time, but I'm getting there.    One of the reasons I first began the website over 10 years ago was simply the interest in 'doodling' with a website ... Beanies definitely added to the fun and it's been a wonderful "hobby" over the years.

Feel free to write with any ideas you would like to share.  I'd love to hear from you.

Thank you for your patience while I endeavor this project.  :)

To hopefully answer the question some collectors have been curious to know, the following was posted on the Ty Cyberboard:

No Difference in Tour Teddy tag info

Message Id: 1097241
americanmaid writes:
There has been a bit of speculation here, so I wrote to customer service to find out if the tags on the Ty Store Tour Teddy are different from the retail tag and this is what I got back.

Thank you for your e-mail regarding Tour the Beanie Baby.

Please note that there is no difference between the Tour Beanie sold at retail locations and the item being sold on-line through the Ty Store.

The listing of Tour on the Ty website is intended to raise awareness and support for the PGA Tour Charities. A portion of the proceeds from sales of this item at retail locations and our website go directly to support the PGA Tour Charities which have help raise over $1 billion dollars to date!

We appreciate your interest and support.

....   Toys Go to the Dogs

MALIBU, Calif.—Playthings are going to the dogs—literally. JAKKS Pacific recently signed a worldwide licensing agreement to develop and market pet products based on rap artist and music mogul, Snoop Dogg. The agreement covers products marketed under Jakks’ JPI pet division.

The new Snoop Dogg-branded line of pet products will cover toys, beds, leashes, apparel, treats and more for dogs and will begin shipping in 2006 to retail locations nationwide.  "We think Snoop Dogg will be a perfect complement to our new pet line, and our team is really excited to develop and market what we expect will be an urban and edgy line,” said Jennifer Richmond, senior vice president of licensing and media, JAKKS Pacific. “Initially, we'll look to sell the Snoop Dogg line into mass retailers and pet superstores. However, we hope to reach even wider distribution to music, novelty and other specialty outlets with a strong, irreverent line."

And Jakks isn’t the only toy manufacturer going after the pet market.  Beanie Babies creators, Ty, Oak Brook, Ill., will enter the segment this year with Bow Wow Beanies, a collection of plush toys designed exclusively for pets, designed in Beanie Babies styles and as fashionable plush dog bones.  "Over the years, some of our products have become quite popular as pet toys," said Ty Warner, chairman and CEO. "It's a natural fit."

  ....  CHERISH  Auctions
Sue
Owen shares the following:
Hi, Just a short note to let you know about some new auctions that have just started in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Many of the items have been donated and each is unique in its own way. As well as England Beanie signed by an England Bean (Sean!) there are some Peace commemoratives and Japanese promotional beanies for sale, also a couple of dressed Beanies.

I have taken advantage of special listing prices on eBay today, which is why the auctions will close on SATURDAY rather than on Sunday as usual.

I do hope that you will place a bid on one or two - they are all started as low as I dare so you could add something rather special to your collection at a great price - and help to raise funds for research into cancer at the same time!
