I am
delighted to share with you the good news that the CHERISH auction for a
signed Bean Bag & Collectables Magazine and pair of signed 'Pound
for Pound' Chubbley Bears closed this evening at a wonderful £102!
MANY thanks to the bidders and congratulations to the winner on
acquiring some unique memorabilia from the recent Bears, Beans and
Collectables Show at Chester.
I am so grateful to those who were able to give the auction publicity,
for it is this which makes all the difference in the final price.
If you couldn't bid, I do hope that you enjoyed watching the auction's
progress - I know that I did! The best thing is that it is more money
raised for Cancer Research UK. The total raised from the show is now
well over £1000!
There are going to be some super auctions coming this autumn - not only
celebrity-signed but also some interesting and unique collectables.

Sue Owen writes:
CHERISH
was at the Bears, Beans and Collectables Show yesterday and we had a
wonderful as well as very productive time fundraising for Cancer
Research UK. Many visitors to our stand were interested to see a few of
the celebrity-signed bears that we have going on auction on eBay from
the end of September up until Christmas, including our latest Cliff
Richard signed limited edition bear from the Cliff Richard Collection of
Gund Bears.
Our main fundraising event was held in conjunction with Chubbley Ltd and it was a riproaring success! The company had donated several dozen Sterling and Blush Bears. Sterling (who has a £ symbol on his paw) was launched as the official 'Pound for Pound Bear' (his tag will vary from event to event) and Blush for Breast Cancer Awareness. Each had a special extra tag as well as a CHERISH 2003 leather neck tag. Blush also came with a pink Cancer Research UK Breast Cancer Awareness ribbon pinned to her paw.
All of the proceeds from the sale of these bears was going to the charity; in addition, buyers were asked to donate another pound (sterling £) for Darren Barker (the designer) to sign the special ear tag. Darren matched this donation with a pound of his own. The bears proved very popular and the stand was very busy! It was great to meet with collectors and chat to them.
Monies are still coming in from yesterday. The running total has now reached £915 and is expected to exceed £1000!
There is a further (related) fundraiser starting this evening: an auction will begin on eBay under seller ID sue_owen for a pair of signed Pound for Pound Chubbley Bears and the latest (not yet available in the shops) issue of Bean Bag and Collectables Magazine. This has been signed by many of the company representatives and designers at the show who also featured in this edition of the magazine so their signatures are on pages/pictures relevant to them.
This is a unique piece of show memorabilia! It is unusual to see so many of these people together at the same time and as Peter Underhill (of Bad Taste Bears) was not there officially to sign items yesterday it was (we think) quite a scoop to get his signed message.
Here is
the link to the auction which will display the charity auction when it
starts later today:

Sue writes:
I
received the most wonderful package yesterday.
Back in February I had an interesting conversation with the very
friendly Managing Director of Gund who was showing the 'Cliff Richard
Collection' at the NEC Spring Fair.
After some correspondence between Mike and myself, the package arrived
that I was hoping for. Inside it was a Gund bear from the Cliff Richard
Collection. As you may already know, they have a facsimile Cliff Richard
signature on their left paw. Mine has a signature on each paw...no, it
isn't an oddity...the signature on the right paw is THE REAL THING!!!
Look out for more details later this year of how you might obtain this
unique bear!
Only a few days left until we set off for 'Up North' to the Bears,Beans
and Collectables Show at Chester Racecourse this Sunday!
We have been very busy preparing the goodies for the CHERISH stall which
we are running with Chubbley Ltd. We hope to raise a very worthwhile sum
for Cancer Research UK through the sale of the two Pound for Pound
Bears. Sterling is specially tagged for the show and Blush for Breast
Cancer Awareness. She even has a pink ribbon pin!
At the show there will also be the opportunity to win one of three Bear
Factory creatures which have been donated by Daphne Roberts (adopted
mother of the magazine-famous 'Baggy Bear') and Irene McGranachan. One
of the competitions will be for children only. The day promises to be a
lot of fun!

... Classic Toys Remain Popular
Classic
toys remain ever popular in an era of fads
By
Andrew Keegan - Cape Gazette
“Please.
Everyone I know has one.” How often does a parent hear that
statement while shopping in a toy store? It seems like every season a
new fad appears. Past trends include the Cabbage Patch doll, Pokeman,
Tickle Me Elmo and Yu-Gi-Oh.
"Naturally, the all-time fad has to be Beanie Babies," said
Ford. The colorful under-stuffed plush bean bag toys, launched in
1993, quickly became an obsession among adults and remained a hot
commodity for the next five years.

Saturday August 9 at 8:00 P.M. EST in the chatroom,
The Beanie Zoo Yahoo Group will have a special Beanieday Night Live chat
with host Garcia the bear. Garcia, named for Jerry Garcia, was the first
rainbow ty-dyed bear, before Peace. The chat hopes to be a success,
after many chats bombed due to low attendance, possibly from many people
taking summer vacations. You can't miss this chat, you're going to love
it! See you on Saturday!
