... Special Ty Announcement Countdown
A special announcement by Ty is coming tonight at 12:00 midnight CST. A countdown of the time is on the site. (That means 1:00 am EST for me, so guess it's a ho-hum, twiddle the thumbs, until then. Of course, the family will be asleep by then anyway, so what else to do! LOL)

... Ty 'Coral Casino' Bear
Ty has designed a bear exclusively for Coral Casino members. The coral colored bear has the words 'Coral Casino' embroidered on it. The hang tag poem reads:

Kissed by the sun
caressed by the sea
Rich with beauty & memories
Forever you'll always
mean so much to me

Randy and Theresa of Beanieholics and Ms Janie have both posted pictures of this new Bear. You can view the photos at either of the following links:

... Ms Janie's New Contest
Ms Janie has designed a fun method for everyone to stay busy during the month of January, which involves your participation. It involves her 2002 forcast for the Ty market. Put on your thinking caps, or let your thoughts and imagination wander. Submit a question to Ms Janie for her to answer ... it's your chance to qualify for one of TWO grand prizes.

... Speckles' Countdown
As we count down the last hours of 2001, the days to order the e-Beanie Speckles on Ty Trade are counting down as well ... there are only 2 days left now.

...
January Info Beanie
The polls close today (at Noon) for voting for the January Info Beanie. On Saturday, the polls were 'closed', apparently just a gliche on the site. They are now open ... Currently Giganto is in the lead, with a whopping jump from two days ago. Giganto (31.5%), Cupid (22.5%), and Kirby (8.7%).

Update: 1:30 pm EST ... Cupid is the January Info Beanie. (Maybe it was a gliche in the system earlier.)

... Have a Safe New Years' Eve
From our family to yours, our best wishes for a Safe, Peaceful, and Happy New Year 2002. Thanks to all of you for your kindness, your support, and your friendship! Because of you, we shall continue to grow, and look forward to another exciting year. Ty appears to have some interesting 'plans' for 2002!

... New Years' Eve Party
As you may know, the Info Beanie has been preparing for a New Years' Eve party for a few days now. Many anticipate quite a few retirements to be announced then. As we'll be up late, ringing in the New Year, we plan to keep you posted on any news 'as it happens'. In the meantime, be safe and enjoy the remainder of your weekend.

Saturday, December 29

... Info Beanie Polls Closed
5:30 pm EST ... The Polls are now closed, for voting for January Info Beanie. Thanks to Will for informing us. (I'm not sure why the polls are closed, perhaps in preparation for the New Years Eve party the Info Beanie has been discussing lately? and/or perhaps the 'expected' Beanie retirements?) Quite interesting, as earlier today Jinglepup wrote:

Saturday December 29, 2001 7:11 a.m.
Good morning! I'm still a little sleepy this morning. We stayed up a little later than usual so we could get used to staying up late for New Years Eve. We're going to try and stay up until midnight! I think we can do it but we might have to take a nap in the afternoon. Golly I just thought of something! That will be the day that I close the polls and announce who the new Info Beanie will be! I can't wait to see who ends up winning! So far it looks like Cupid is in the lead but that can still change. I'm going to check the polls right now! I'll talk to you later. Bye!

Cupid is currently listed as #1 (with 26.6%), followed by Giganto (17.0%).

... Newbies Listed
11:30 pm EST ... Did you notice? All the new releases are now listed on their relevant 'currents' list on Ty's website (excluding poems and birthdays). Now that was quick! (All the lists on this site are now updated as well ... links are noted at the bottom of this page and also on the main page.)

As noted in earlier news today, it looks like quite a few of them may move to the 'retired' listings soon.

... 'Rescue' and 'Courage' in Japan
10:45 pm EST ... Martin reported earlier this month that Ty Japan announced a new Beanie set for retailers to order called the 'Red Cross set'. This set would contain 36 America (Japanese poem), 36 Rescue (Japanese poem) and 36 Courage (Japanese poem). These three Beanies have arrived now (the America Beanie picture was previously posted). Kooler of 'Bean Book' provides us with pictures of the Japanese hang tags of Rescue and Courage (the tush tag is the same as the U.S. version).

... Thanks again to both Martin and Kooler for providing us with this great info!

... 'Ask Ty' Q & A
The next 'Ask Ty' question and answer has been posted, along with your chance to vote for the next question you would like Ty Warner to answer.

Q: Give us a hint. What is coming for 2002? (submitted by Beaniebunny)
A: Here's a couple of hints: Great designs, new fabrics . . . . maybe a teenie twist and a few surprises along the way. I'm looking forward to 2002 and wish you all the best in this coming New Year.

Click here to visit 'Ask Ty'

(Note: A summary of all Q & A's to date can be found on this site by clicking here)

Doodle's comment: Now just what could a 'teenie twist' mean? ... a small twist in the marketing of Beanies? more Teenie Beanies on the horizon? And 'great designs, new fabrics'? ... Sounds like an interesting 'tyme' in 2002. Which raises another question? Weren't we 'expecting' "Tyme" watches? Then again, that would be 'expecting the expected', right? If you would like to comment on what you think may be in store for us from Ty, please send me an email. We're always interested in what you have to say and we'll be glad to share it with other collectors.

... January Ordering Info ... and MORE!
3:55 pm EST ... Ms Janie has posted some information which has been faxed to Ty retailers. Although not found on the Retailer ordering page yet, listed is what retailers are allowed to order for January (as well as 'missing' Beanies and Buddies on the list). Quite interesting ... you might want to check it out!

... Cashmere Ty Classic
2:30 pm EST ... Yesterday, we wondered what was happening when Cashmere was introduced (or should we say re-introduced) with the January releases. This Classic bunny has now moved from the retirement section to the current page on Ty's site ... and reads "First retirement date was 03-23-01". (Ya know, bunnies do have a way of multiplying!!)

... Silent Retirements!
6:30 pm EST ... Speaking of retirements, you may not have noticed ... BUT after browsing around the Ty website today, it appears that Kooky Kandy Bopper, and Beanie Kids Baby 2002 and Noelle, have quietly slipped to the retirement home. That's quite interesting, especially since many (including myself) have not even seen Baby 2002! In fact, he really hasn't even been 'born' yet, as his birthday is January 1, 2002! Wow!

9:30 pm EST ... And More Silent Retirements:
William writes:

... Ty Newsflash - Retirements
11:00 am EST ... Perhaps this is the beginning of a few retirements before years' end? Ty has retired 3 Beanie Buddies this morning - 1997 Holiday Teddy, Lg. 1997 Holiday Teddy, and X.Lg. 1997 Holiday Teddy.

... News Articles
10:50 am EST ... A reader from the UK sends along a couple of interesting articles. Although not Beanie-related, I thought it may be something you'd like to read:

"Watchdog"
Price Fixing

"We spend almost two billion pounds a year on toys. Half of that is in the twelve weeks up to Christmas. But this year there is something afoot in toy town. ... Hasbro the toy manufacturing giant, has around 15% of the UK toy market. However the company that makes Mr Potato Head and Action Man is expecting to be fined by the OFT for price fixing. It looks like Mr Potato Head's chips may be down."

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone has captured the imagination of young people everywhere
First there was the book, then came the film and then there were the toys. ... The only problem is the toy they want more than anything is virtually impossible to get here in Britain. Demand for the Lego Hogwart’s Castle has been so high that Lego have had to ship three times their original order to Britain. They still haven’t been able to satisfy the demand.

... What's Next?
It is our hope that your Christmas holiday was a safe and joyous time. Our family has just returned from visiting relatives and friends over the last two days ... it was a busy time but very enjoyable. We shared stories, exchanged gifts, ate lots of yummy goodies (aren't we supposed to?), and discussed our New Years' resolutions for 2002. (Mine is usually the same every year, which includes losing those 'couple' of extra pounds gained :)

As we reported last Thursday, the Speckles count-down is in progress. It won't be long now and that e-Beanie will no longer be available at Ty Store. Also, it is anticipated that new Ty products will be announced within the next week. (I suspect quite a few retirements are probably around the corner as well.) The New Year looks to be a busy one ... I'd get ready for an exciting ride! :)

Note: ... Remember what Ty Warner said in an 'Ask Ty' question on August 11th???
Q: What can we look forward to from you in 2002? (submitted by ariel1)
A: You know for sure that you can always "expect the unexpected", I can't be specific because I want it to be a surprise, but here's a hint: Something worldwide and very special will start at the beginning of next year.
PUT ON YOUR THINKING CAPS!

... News Article
12:05 am EST ... It's always interesting to read 'news stories', especially the articles this time of year on how so many people are helping others. From donations of toy cars, action figures, and Beanie Babies, you may find this article quite 'touching':

Bonita Daily News
By Rachel Webb
"Hearts Behind the Holidays: Families Adjust to Christmas in Hospitals"
Editor's note: Hearts Behind the Holidays is a six-part series that looks at how people celebrate, endure and work through the holiday season in Southwest Florida.

"The halls at The Children's Hospital are brighter at this time of year. Shiny tinsel and decorations hang from every wall and ceiling. The smell of baking cookies wafts through the air and nearly every day means a visit from St. Nick. .... But creating an ordinary Christmas can be daunting when dealing with patients facing serious health problems. For support, families of hospitalized pediatric patients are invited to Christmas dinner at the Ronald McDonald House, King said. .... "We very much try to normalize the experience," King said. "We also have to balance that sometimes with understanding some families are in crisis." .... The Children's Hospital has been busy with events. The week before Christmas included visits from members of the Florida Everblades, parties and toys donated by a Cape Coral chiropractor. .... On one December day, Ernest Risley exchanged his chiropractic services for a new unwrapped toy. He collected $1,000 worth of gifts; one woman alone brought in 50 new Beanie Babies."

... News Article
10:30 pm EST ... While searching around the Internet (a quick reprieve from a busy day), I came across an article you may be interested in reading, from yesterday's 'Texarkana' news archives:

Judge Orders Beanie Baiter to Pay $8,000
The Texarkana Gazette
By LISA BOSE MCDERMOTT/Of the Gazette Staff

A Dierks, Ark., woman will have to pay back more than $8,000 for Beanie Babies she sold through online auctions that she failed to deliver. Karen C. Keaton, 32, also known as Karen Thompson, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Harry F. Barnes to six months home confinement, five years' probation and ordered to pay back 'over $8,000'.

... Have a Safe and Happy Holiday
Christmas is now upon us ... it's hard to believe that Christmas Eve is tomorrow. As most of us continue with our family traditions, we shall keep those in our prayers that will not be able to do so. We shall take each day and live it as it is given to us.

I (hopefully) finished up the last bit of shopping and wrapping yesterday. (While out, I was amazed at the empty shelves of Beanies ... perhaps many will find that special one they've been wanting, under the tree!) Today will be a day of baking goodies and visiting with friends (one of my most enjoyable times over the holiday) and remembering the real 'reason for the season'.

I will keep you updated if and when news may happen. In the meantime, enjoy your time with loved ones and be safe.

From our family to yours, have a Happy Holiday!

... Beanie Kid '2002 Baby' Shipping
Looks like this Beanie Kid is ready to ring in the New Year! '2002 Baby' was introduced on the Ty website on November 30th, along with 'Sugar' and 'Sweetie' Beanie Kids. Although he has not been 'born' yet (with a birthday of January 1, 2002), he's showing up at some retailers now. So keep your eyes peeled if this one's on your 'wish list'. Ms Janie has posted pictures of this cutie, found by a collector, which you can view here.

... 'Food for Thought' Letters
Ms Janie has shared a couple of letters that are well worth reading. With the holiday season upon us, as well as this year's global 'unrest', both of these postings really put things in prospective for all of us.

... AOL Top Searched Terms
1:30 pm EST ... AOL has listed the top search requests from internet readers in 2001:

... 'Speckles' Days are Numbered
12:05 am EST ... On June 29, 2000, Ty launched 'Ty Trade' on the website. Along with this official opening, the first 'e-Beanie' was introduced ... Speckles. It was stated on Ty Trade:

Ty Trade is proud to introduce Speckles the e-Beanie Bear. Speckles is the first exclusive Internet Beanie Baby ... and it's only available to registered users of Ty Trade!

Now it appears, after a year and a half, that Speckles' days are 'numbered'. When visiting Ty Trade earlier, I noticed it now reads "Only 13 days left to order Speckles". Looks like an upcoming retirement the first of the year for this Bear!

... Where is Ty?
2:30 pm EST ... Update: The Ty site is up and running now. At a glance, it appears the only current change is the removal of Rescue and Courage from the main page. However, we do see the kettle 'brewing on the back burner'. Keep watching.

12:40 pm EST ... The Ty website has been down for the majority of the morning. Perhaps just technical problems with the site or is something really 'sizzling' at Ty? Whatever the reason, I would advise you to keep checking the site over the next few days. Of course, we will surely let you know the latest news 'as it happens'.

... Ordering from the BBOC
10:30 am EST ... Ryan shares the following:
I was just at the BeanieBabiesOfficialClub.com website earlier this morning, and I noticed the pop-up window announcing the “extension” date of the offer. I clicked the link given on the “pop-up” to order these items, and low & behold I did not have to log in. It went straight to the order form, and I successfully ordered another box of Clubby Jingle Beanies. I was given an order number, and all! I will have to wait and see if I do receive them from ty or not. Anyways, this could be good for those who are members, but would not make them as exclusive if indeed non-members are going to be clicking in and ordering them. Thought this was interesting.
Ryan
http://www.beanyspot.com

Doodle's Note: I visited the BBOC site, and voila! Apparently, you are allowed to order without entering your BBOC membership number. Perhaps something new Ty is working on as well? Could this be the potential launch of the BBOC for ordering internationally?

3:00 pm EST ... Ryan adds the following:

Hi Deb ... After I sent the eMail about the "not logging in" ordering, I received my order confirmation, along with an eMail saying "Account Activated" giving me my new username, and password. It was to my understanding that you were to be a current member, or had to purchase a new kit to become a member to order. Looks like you can just get registered from ordering. Some "exclusives" they are!

... Yet Another Version of Dizzy!
One of Ms Janie's readers has sent in a photo of a Dizzy Beanie Baby found in Canada, with a SOLID BLACK TAIL. Supposedly only approximately 48 of this version are in existence. (This Beanie has also been authenticated.) To check out a picture of this Dizzy, please visit Ms Janie's site here.

Doodle's Note: Although the actual quantity is unofficial, of course, the fact remains this appears tp be a rare version.

... New Beanies and Buddies?
1:00 am EST ... Last Thursday, December 13th (See December news archives), we posted information (passed along from a quite reliable source) of new January 'potential' Beanies and Buddies, along with their style numbers). (Ms Janie had also posted similar news on her site as well.) Also mentioned were new country Exclusives, specifically in the Asian market. This information has since been posted on a couple of other news websites over the last couple of days. Having received several emails earlier from readers asking about the 'accuracy' of these newbies, I only wish to remind you, as stated earlier ... "this information should be considered 'unofficial' of course, until released officially by Ty." We do not usually post 'rumors', but considered this information 'newsworthy', and something to think about, as news has been a bit slow lately. (At least we have time to catch up on some last minute holiday shopping in the interim.) At any rate, as said before, 2002 looks to be an exciting year for Ty collectors. I'd keep my eyes posted on the Ty website ... Ty should be the first to announce any new releases ... let's just wait and see ... 'tyme will tell'.

Update: 9:30 am ... Some additional information has been added this morning on Beanieholics site in regards to the anticipated newbies, including new Boppers. You might want to check it out as well.

Tuesday, December 18

... Cuddly Crystal at Ty Retailers?
A reader has written to Ms Janie and states finding Cuddly Crystal, the BBOC Exclusive Beanie Bopper, at an authorized Ty dealer. (There were six of them, no bar code.) Wonder what that's about? ... did they slip through the 'cracks' in shipment? If you have also seen or heard of this, you might want to pass along the info to Ms. Janie. Quite Interesting, wouldn't you say?!!

... Rescue and Courage Arrive in Canada
12:20 am EST ... On October 23rd, Ty Store opened the door to Canadians. John, a reader in Canada, ordered Rescue and Courage on that day and reports the following:

Hi Deb! How have you been? Everything is just great here. Got our first snowfall yesterday and didn't stop until just about 2 hours ago LOL. Anyway, I wanted to let you know that Courage and Rescue have arrived and that I ordered the first day that the Ty Store was open to Canadians. The tags are perfect and they do have the Ty Store logo on the back. Just thought you might like to know!
Take care! John

... eBay 'History'
12:15 am EST ... If you are an eBay 'user', you may find this article interesting:

"EBay was founded in 1995 by EBay Chairman Pierre Omidyar, as an online clearinghouse for his then-girlfriend's collection of Pez dispensers. An immediate hit, the Web site branched into other collectibles like Beanie Babies and antiques, then into an array of more-practical categories such as consumer electronics, pet supplies and music. The company was taken public in September 1998."

... Twas the Week Before Christmas
... and all through the house. Not a creature is stirring, not even a mouse.

There is no news to report so far today ... I've searched endlessly to report something that may be of interest to collectors. However, I do smell something 'baking' (and I don't think it's cookies) ... or is it 'sizzling'? (Remember our earlier 'news' from last week?)

(With the holidays upon us, I have decided to start the next contest after the first of the year. So stay tuned for details ... there are some GREAT prizes to be given away!)

... Ty Japan Exclusives
Many have commented on the pictures that our Japanese friend Kooler has provided of the Ty Classics. If you haven't checked them out, see yesterday's news. He has some GREAT close-ups of the three ... the details on these Classics are amazing. Did you notice the spine of Godzilla, the eyes of Mothra? WOW !!! (I initially posted yesterday's news in Friday's section, so you may have missed the pictures. During this busy time of the year, I'm really not sure WHAT day it is! :)

... New Product Introductions
A Ty retailer has shared news with Ms Janie of an upcoming Trade Show in Philadelphia, PA (January 5-8). The letter from Ty that they received also wishes a happy holiday and a chance to see 'exciting new product introductions' and 'meet some new friends' at the Show. Visit Ms Janie's site for more details.

Doodle's note: I wonder if the 'new friends' are perhaps the Beanies and Buddies we mentioned earlier ... (Beanies) Romance, Kissme and Clover, and (Buddies) Sizzle and Smooch? 'Rumors' are also floating of New Exclusives in January for the Asian Market. Whatever Ty's plans are for 2002, it looks to be the beginning of an exciting New Year!

... Godzilla has Struck!
1
0:15 am EST ... With the anticipation all week of the Godzilla movie today in Japan, apparently the wait was well worth it. Kooler writes and has shared some wonderful photos of the three Ty Classics ... Godzilla, King Ghidorah, and Mothra).

Kooler writes: "('When') the Godzilla movie started on December 15, 2001, 'the' sale started. But,there were few movie theaters which sell this. And the purchase number had restriction(s). As for the place which I 'attended', many people had stood in a line. A golden sticker is stuck in HangTag. ('The') price is 1470 yen (About $12). From now on, by mail order, although purchase is also possible, restriction will be carried out to the purchase number.

The Lehi Fire/EMS Department has a unique fund raiser this year ... a Christmas 'Beanie Baby Bear Tree'. Raffle tickets are being sold at $5 for this unique tree! Excerpts from the article follow, with a link to read the article and view a picture of the 'Beanie Bear Tree'.

New Utah Newspaper
Broadbent's Annual Holiday Fund Raiser Begins

The Beanie Baby Christmas Tree this year at Broadbents is in the form of a slender pine and has a theme — The Beanie Baby Bear Tree. The Beanie Baby Bear Tree has two angel bears adorning the top of the tree. Bears of all colors and themes festoon the rustic tree.

In addition, unlike former years when Broadbents sponsored this fund raiser for families in crisis through the Lehi Fire/EMS Department, instead of gift baskets, the Broadbent family has decided to give away three fine progressive Olympic 2002 pin collections.

... Beanie Boppers Retire - No Newsflash
4:50 pm EST ... On Sunday a reader shared with Ms Janie that the Ty Retailers site reports "At this time Holiday Heidi and Jolly Janie are no longer available for ordering now or in the future."

Well, that pretty much told us that they were 'retired', although they were still listed as 'current' on Ty's site. Both Beanie Boppers are now officially listed on Ty's Ty's Beanie Bopper lists as 'retired'. However, I find it interesting that there was no official Newsflash announcing their retirement.

... While All is Quiet

With news a little slow lately, I thought you may be interested in reading a couple of articles. (The first article shows a nice display of Beanie Babies!)

3:40 pm EST ...
Le Mars Daily Centinel
By Beverly Van Buskirk
Iowa Roots are Common Theme of Collectibles Display

Santa Claus isn’t the only special attraction at the Le Mars Art Center this Christmas season. To add to the enjoyment, the center is sponsoring a Holiday Collection Review. All the collections have roots in Iowa. Local residents Tim Watson, Sue Morris, Michele Britton and Barbara Trimble have put their collectibles on display, showcasing their favorites in longtime and recent collecting activities. ......

Beanie Babies have been a “hot” collectible and Michele Britton is an avid collector. Starting in 1995, she only purchased the ones she liked.

Britton was thrilled that there was a collection her children liked and the items were very affordable. As friends and family learned about the Beanie Baby craze and Britton’s interest, they would pick ones up for her. Little by little the collection grew and it was only with the announcement of the Ty “The End” bear that Michele and her family decided to quit collecting. The bears were and still are the hardest to find, but every now and then Britton still manages to find one along the way.

... High School Santas Help Needy Children
3:30 pm EST ...
'The Tennessean Newspaper
By NICOLE GARTON
Staff Writer
A toy truck, children's clothes and stuffed animals were on high school senior Sylvia McCormick's Christmas shopping list this year. Other teen-agers bought Barbies, books and remote control cars. Students from Glencliff and Hillsboro high schools have become Santas this Christmas for about 80 kids from Edgehill Center's child-care program. Each first-period or homeroom class collected a wish list from one child, raised about $50 and shopped for as many gifts as that money could buy. ... ''We're like Santa Claus to these kids. Their hopes for a wonderful Christmas are in our hands,'' said Tim Gray, also a senior at Hillsboro.

On Friday. the teens delivered the gifts, which won't be opened until Christmas. They also brought small gift boxes filled with yo-yos, coloring books, Beanie Babies and candy canes for the kids to open right away.

A reader has shared with Ms Janie that the Ty Retailers site reports "At this time Holiday Heidi and Jolly Janie are no longer available for ordering now or in the future. Thank you."

... Hmmmm
A reader in the U.K. writes:
It seems that it’s not only the USA where Ty products are showing up in discount type shops: in the UK they’ve been in Tescos again this year, as well as Woolworths. Now a number of Beanies and Buddies are on sale, at discounted prices, in another odd location - Ethel Austin shops, a chain of bargain-priced clothes shops.
"Curiouser and curiouser!"

Note: As you are probably aware, Beanie Boppers (specifically 'Holly') have recently been reported as showing up at various WalMart stores; 'Razzmatazz' Classics have been showing up for some time. We have no idea why certain Ty products are showing up at these type stores. There are some skepticisms as to why. Who's to know, at the point. But searching through my News Archives, I came across the following that was posted on Ty's site as a Newsflash on December 5, 2000:

Our product has recently appeared in a chain of discount / dollar stores. These plush toys were not purchased directly from Ty Inc., nor were they purchased from any authorized dealer. Based on the amounts involved, we believe these may be counterfeit, stolen or may have been sold by a charitable organization that received a donation from Ty Inc. We feel compelled to reaffirm that we do not sell to mass merchants, discount stores, and dollar stores in the United States or in other countries where our product is distributed.

This is an unfortunate situation and we are actively investigating this matter. In the interim, we ask all of our consumers to use caution when buying these plush toys as we cannot vouch for their authenticity.

... 'Warehouse Brims with Christmas Spirit'
12:05 am EST ...

The Charlotte Observer/Charlotte.com
By Don Hudson - 12/6/01

(Article Summary) ... Volunteers from all over beg for a chance to help at 'Samaritan's Purse'. Hundreds of volunteers work long days sorting and repacking shoeboxes full of gifts for overseas delivery. Operation Christmas Child is one of the primary ministries of evangelist Franklin Graham (son of Charlotte native Billy Graham). This year, more than 5 million shoeboxes will go to underprivileged children in 90 countries, including 150,000 to Afghanistan. Last year, 'Smart Money' magazine rated Graham's 'Samaritan's Purse' organization as the most efficient religious charity in the U.S. Volunteers are abundant, enjoying the 'feel' of the spirit of Christmas, as well as the enjoyment, as they pack the shoeboxes - all overflowing with toys and gifts. Ty has donated thousands of stuffed animals. This one charity is as powerful - and pure - a reminder of the season's spirit as you will find.

... New Beanie Birthdays and Poems
3:05 pm EST ... A reader writes the following:

Hi Deb: This is Suzanne again. I just read the latest news on your site, as I do every day, several times a day. I have also picked up the new Beanie Babies today here in the U.S. I live in Illinois. I got Poofie, Sizzle, and Cupid. They are TOO cute; unfortunately, I do not have a digital cam to send you pictures. The birthday and poems are:

Poofie
Birthday ... July 17, 2001
My favorite thing to do inside
Is run across the floor and slide.
It's very easy for me to do
With fur like mine, then you could too!

Cupid
Birthday ... February 14, 2001
This puppy has a special look
You'll never find him in a book.
He'll lick your face, it's very sweet
His kisses are a Valentine treat!

Sizzle
Birthday ... August 25, 2001
Look at me, I'm quite a bear.
I love my soft and furry hair.
Make me sizzle, is what I said
That's why I'm such a vibrant red!

(Thanks for sharing, Suzanne! Can't wait to see them, too!)

Hi Doodle ...
Sizzle and Cupid are shipping!  I found both of these cuties today, but had to pass them up.  I left my credit card at home and didn't have any cash on me by the time I left Belk's!  Arg!!!  Will have to go back tomorrow to see if any are still there.  This is a first I have seen new product arrive to my area of North Carolina first!  Will keep you posted on the outcome.

... You Never Know
While out doing your holiday shopping, be sure to keep your eyes peeled. You never know what you may come across! Jeanne found a great bargain and shares the following:

Hi, We just wanted to share what my son and I were able to find while Christmas shopping this week. It seems that a florist shop in our community which no longer sells Ty products had advertised a Ty plush sale to sell some of their older stock that they had left over from when they sold these items a few years ago. My son got my attention, and showed me a room where older beanie babies were being sold for $2.50 each! You can imagine how surprised I was to discover almost an entire shelf full of Magics! (We had very little money to do very much Christmas shopping with this year anyway, due to all the layoffs, and I had recently lost a job.) We picked up about seven of these beautiful creatures, leaving a number for whomever else may want some. We had a great time. Have a great day and happy beanie hunting!     J.D.

... More Virus Alerts!
5:15 pm EST ... UPDATE: Below you will find a list of the most recent viruses spreading. Please be careful when opening ANY email attachments.

W32.Goner.A@mm is a mass-mailing worm that is written in Visual Basic. The worm has been compressed using a known Portable Executable (PE)* file compressor. The worm can spread its infection using the ICQ network as well as by email using Microsoft Outlook. If IRC is installed, this worm can also insert mIRC scripts that will enable the computer to be
used in Denial of Service (DOS) attacks.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.goner.a@mm.html

W32.Eira.A@mm is an Internet worm that carries a payload that overwrites files. The file name of this worm suggests that it is a demo of the Quake4 game, but it is not.
Also Known As:
W32.Eira.57344@mm, I-Worm.Quamo
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.eira.a@mm.html

VBS.Alal is a simple Trojan horse that copies itself to the \Windows, \Windows\System, and Windows temporary folders. It overwrites all .txt and .doc files that it finds with a text message. It also creates a text file in the \Windows folder.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/vbs.alal.html

W32.Badtrans.B@mm is a MAPI worm that emails itself out using different file names. It also creates the file \Windows\System\Kdll.dll. It uses functions from this file to log keystrokes.

2:30 pm EST ... A mass-mailing email worm has started spreading quickly. Below is more information on a recent virus, named 'Pentagone'.

"Pentagone" virus spreads rapidly
By Robert Lemos, Staff Writer, CNET News.com
December 4, 2001, 10:50 a.m. PT

A mass-mailing e-mail worm started to spread quickly Tuesday, prompting antivirus software makers to advise their customers to upgrade their virus definitions. Dubbed Pentagone, Goner or Gone, the Visual Basic Script program spreads via e-mail and the messaging system ICQ. On infected computers, it stops most antivirus and security programs.

The worm only affects computers running Microsoft Windows and spreads through Outlook e-mail clients. Macs and computers running Linux or other Unix-like operating systems are unaffected. The worm arrives in a message with the subject "Hi" and the following text in the body of the e-mail:

How are you ?
When I saw this screensaver, I immediately thought about you
I am in a harry, I promise you will love it!

Attached to the message is what appears to be a screensaver file, Gone.scr, a compressed copy of the worm. When the file is opened, Pentagone will infect the victim's PC, stopping a variety of antivirus and security applications and deleting all the files in the folders containing those applications. Kaspersky Lab's AVP, Zone Labs' ZoneAlarm, and Internet Security Systems' Black Ice are among the programs affected.

... Holiday Traditions
Most people, including myself, find it amazing that it's already December! Seems we just returned from our summer vacation at the Coast. The time seems to fly quicker every year! Perhaps we get so wrapped up in our busy robotic lives that the days sometimes just seem to run together? This has been an eventful year for many, perhaps with lost jobs, lost loved ones, and a true test of our patronage and caring for each other. This year we will continue our family tradition at Christmas ... neighborhood caroling, visiting the Church live navity scene, baking for a needy family, and riding around the city on Christmas Eve ... admiring the twinkling lights and the peacefulness that seems to sit in on that night. But it will be different, in it's own special way.

If you have a special tradition that you will be carrying out during this holiday season (or perhaps you're doing something a little different this year) , we would like to hear it. If possible, we would like to post your 'story' to share with others. No matter what your religion or faith, just remember to 'share your cares' with others! Happy Holidays and enjoy the season.

Email your 'story' to webmaster@doodlespage.com

... Teenie Beanies at McDonald's ... and why?
Several people have reported finding Teenie Beanie Babies at McDonald's recently. On November 19th (see November news) , we reported the press release by McDonald's (announcing that McDonald's and Toys "R" Us were introducing a new one-of-a-kind Happy Meal). The eight mini-versions of the Toys "R" Us line would be available when the Happy Meal debuts November 30 - December 27.

Perhaps the reason for the TBB's can be explained as follows (sent in by Andre):

We have 5 local Walmarts which all have Mcdonalds in them here in the Vancouver area. They are only selling TBB for the whole month. They have a display case and all promoting Ty,  while all of the other Mcdonalds which are stand alone or in malls are selling the new Toys R Us animals for the whole month. I ask the manager on duty and he said that all Walmart Mcdonalds are selling TBBs but gave me no reason why. My guess is that they (Walmart) don't want (Mcdonalds restaurants) to push another toy store (Toys R Us) when they (Walmart) sell toys as well. That way they are not advertising for a competitor.

... Thanks for passing along the info, Andre. You're probably right! Sure makes sense anyway.
