...  CHERISH Auctions / Update
Sue Owen shares the following:
Tomorrow will be the final week for CHERISH DEC-AID auctions, for the moment anyway. There is a possibility that individual auctions may be listed from time to time, mostly of DEC-AID DECADE bears with colour coordinated wristbands. I won't list these until the wristbands have arrived. Tomorrow 3 such auctions will begin, featuring WHITE, LIGHT BLUE and ROYAL BLUE Decade Bears (thanks to 'Lena at Lake' for donating the bears). Each bear comes with a special CHERISH DEC-AID awareness ribbon, tags and 2 Tsunami relief wristbands - one for the bear to keep and one for you to wear! ...

...Here is the link to all the current CHERISH auctions (don't forget the 8 closing tomorrow!) ...
http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZsue_owen

... There will be no more auctions until later in March after these, as I am getting all the ingredients ready for the BIG event next month - the CHERISH Global Breakfast! Last year's event was very popular and I hope that this year's will be an even bigger success!

Best wishes, Sue

...   CHERISH - Auctions/Updates
Sue Owen writes:

The contents of this box will be available for viewing at 11 pm GMT today.  If you collect Peace Bears you will definitely be interested!

At 11pm my son will have been fasting for 12 hours to raise money for World Vision, as part of an event called The 24-hour Famine. Between 18th and 20th February, young people throughout the UK will be going without food for 24 hours in return for sponsorship.

The money raised will bring children orphaned by HIV/AIDS what they need most - food and warmth, the vital support of a Care Worker, the chance to go to school and will help protect their home and land from being stolen. The money will also help reduce the number of orphans  through education about HIV/AIDS.

Any money raised will be very much appreciated and make a real difference. However, an achievable suggested target for every teen who takes part is £72. Why  £72?

Every £6 raised could care for one orphan for one month. This means £72 could provide care, comfort and protection for an orphan for one whole year.

For that reason the package will be offered for sale by auction but will also be available as a Buy It Now item for £72.  We will donate the eBay fees and hope that the auction winner will feel able to donate any PayPal fees if they choose to use that method of payment, so that all of the money raised can go to World Vision.

Therefore if you are interested in this item, please look at the auction as soon as it goes live at 11pm GMT to ensure that you have the chance to bid! If you miss out and would like to sponsor Steven then donations would be very gratefully received - please just email me to discuss how you might do this.

Also on eBay are several auctions closing today in aid of research into children's cancers, including the wonderful set of items signed by WWE wrestler Mick Foley aka Dude Love.  The current DEC-AID auctions for 6 Gold Decade Beanies are also closing later today.

Starting tonight is a new series of DEC-AID auctions, thanks to wonderful donations from Miho Yamamoto of Japan, Louise Dick of Scotland and Heather Weinert of England.

All current CHERISH auctions can be viewed at this link:

Finally, please make a note of this date in your diary:  Saturday 19th March
I'll let you know what's cooking nearer the date!

  ...   Get Well Soon
Our best wishes to Ms. Janie.  She was diagnosed today with pneumonia and was sent to bed with some needed rest.  She will update her site as soon as she is feeling better.  Ms. Janie is a good friend to many of us ... we send our best wishes in hopes she is feeling better soon!

Added Note:  Karen (aka KarenBrit) writes:

Ms. Janie asked me to let others know that she is very sick.  She has not been feeling well for the last week, and her doctor's visit today confirmed she has pneumonia and is to go straight to bed.  She will not be updating the site for a few days...perhaps she should take a week off...but i'm not sure i can convince her of that! lol

As a side note, sales of the book have got my fingers aching, elbows hurting, and arms about to drop off, with all the emails, registering orders, sending out payment details, etc.  Close to 1,000 orders have come in!!!!    I'm speechless!  No, i'll never be that :-)  The adrenaline (? sp) is keeping me going, I'll probably collapse after the last book's mailed out! lol  Won't be long now.  I can see it as a way to get the market up and running like crazy again!  I've had the kindest emails and the excitement is incredible, over the book.  Makes it all worthwhile the work put into it.  Thank you everyone for sharing the news about it.

  ...  New 'Ask Ty' Q & A
A new 'Ask Ty' question and answer has been posted on Ty's website.

(Hopefully this will clarify some questions concerning a post by Ty Warner on the Ty Cyberboard (on January 28th) concerning prototype Beanies.  It read as follows:

I need your help !
Ty Warner (Jan 28, 2005, 05:20 PM)
Message Id: 924112

Ty Warner writes:
I was shocked to see the auctions for my prototypes. I have not given anyone the authority to sell these items. I do not know how they found their way out of our office, or if they are even authentic. Please know one thing is for certain, I will find out how this happened and who is responsible. I ask you not to bid on any prototypes until I have resolved this issue. If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of my prototypes please email my office at contact@ty.com.  Thank you for your help and your continued support.

Today's 'Ask Ty' reads as follows:
Q: Can you please clear up some of the confusion about the prototype issue? (submitted by americanmaid)
A: As I said before in the statement I posted on the Daily Tymes Board with respect to the prototypes, I'm taking action to ensure that this situation is resolved soon and never happens again. Please know that I'm taking this very seriously and I appreciate your concerns.

  ...  New Beanie Baby Book!
Many of you have written in the past of your curiosity and interest in a new (and updated) Beanie Baby book.  Karen (aka KarenBrit) has worked very hard over the last year on providing such a book, consulting with many people, listening to collectors' questions, and reviewing suggestions made since the 1st edition was released  She can now actively take preorders for the book.  For anyone who places an order, she will email you an order number.  (She will then know the quantity of books, labels, padded envelopes, etc. that will be needed.)  If you do not receive a confirmation email within 24 hours, you should email her directly.

...  UK Show News - Update
A new range of Ty products have been exhibited at the UK Show today.  As reported earlier, Daphne has posted news on her website of this new line ... "Pinkys" (or 'Pinkies').  It sounds interesting, especially if you love the color pink!  There is also news of another line ... 'Angeline' (or 'Angelina').  Due 'Mayish', Angeline features a blonde, ruffled-haired angel with tiny wings'; also included are  key rings, cards, tissue paper, and gift bags.   A full report can be read on the 'Bears and Beans' site be
clicking here.

Also at the Show was a new Beanie called 'Mum', which appears to be a variation as in years' past of the U.S. version 'Mom'.  This Bear doesn't appear to be an Exclusive, perhaps just a different 'version'.  (Note:  Ms. Janie has posted a report from a UK reader, which can be read on her site by

  ...  Counterfeit Beanies
Karen (aka Karenbrit) shares the following:
Re: Counterfeit Beanies
Collectors probably don't realize the many people who help them.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all!  Many people work openly and there are many behind the scenes helping.

Webmasters inform people, and often have counterfeit information on their sites, TrueBlueBeansNews has active counterfeit auctions listed, and many collectors help by sharing information with others.  Traderlist posts bad traders, and help people when problems arise, but wouldn't it be great if we could prevent problems arising in the first place.

I know many are getting very frustrated that their work is in vain.  Mags on Ty Talk is relentless in her efforts to alert collectors, but this is a post she has put on Ty Talk.  I sometimes wonder if collectors have a false sense of security.  Ty has a counterfeit hotline, and eBay's policies are no counterfeit can be sold.  However, obviously everyone is not doing the work needed to rid the market of these counterfeits  once and for all.

To me there is only one solution: DESTROY THE COUNTERFEITS! Some auctions are pulled by Ty, only to be relisted 3 months later.  Get the police involved. Contact the seller, if necessary buy the product, get the seller's details, but no money sent to them to support their illegal action, and get the local police department to go round to get the counterfeit, and either send to Ty to destroy it, or have the police man destroy it. It's illegal to sell counterfeits.  There are sellers who honestly do not realize they have a counterfeit. However, perhaps if the above suggested action was taken, they would make sure that they have an authentic product before listing it for sale.  We have 3 great authentication services at our disposal if help is needed in determining this.  I think all 3, offer an economy service that's just to determine if it's authentic or not, without the Certificate, case, etc. It is for their expert opinion only.  Collectors and sellers should be taking advantage of this.  I know for sure TrueBlueBeans and Peggy Gallagher offer it, and am sure pbbags would too.

This is what mags posted on Ty talk.

It's sad to see so many fakes selling for big prices!! Who said
Mags2002   (Feb 06, 2005, 02:06 PM)
Message Id: 929746

Mags2002 writes:

Beanie collectors had lost interest? Seems people are still looking to buy the rare ones. Seems people still don't know how to determine a real from a fake. Seems people still aren't checking Traderlist and Truebluebeansnews counterfeit auction alerts. Almost everything on the counterfeit auction alerts site has sold or is getting big bids. $520 for fake royal blue Peanut, another fake RBP for $102. OUCH! Fake Humphrey currently has bids at almost $300. Another fake Humphrey sold for over $200. Fake wingless Quackers for $360, Peking $355, chilly $117. All were on the alerts list. One seller from the bad Traderlist is again selling her fake royal blue Peanuts and Stings and who knows what she will add next. I sure wish people would do their homework before paying big money for these obvious counterfeits. I sure wish Ty Inc. would do something about getting eBay to remove them under his VeRO rights. Hope no one reading here gets taken.
Mags

I do believe this topic deserves attention. This affects everyone.  It affects the collectors buying, it affects how people feel towards beanie collecting in general, it affects them from even buying other things online for fear of being taken, it affects the honest sellers, it affects the value of people's collections, because mixed with authentic beanies are counterfeit beanies, lowering the prices.  I hope Ty will listen to my suggestion above, destroying the counterfeits is the only way I can see putting a stop to it. Oh, and a fine to payable to the police department for their work
Love; Karen

  ...   Cherish Auctions - Update
Sue Owen shares the following:

After a hectic day of auctions closing and more starting I am delighted to share with you the wonderful news that last week's auctions totalled over 1760 pounds (before eBay & PayPal fees!

The 5 Special Edition Baobabu-no-ki Beanie Packages were very well-contested and raised great sums, while the Asia Pacific 2004 Flower Beanies with CHERISH DEC-AID tags and cards also brought in an impressive total.

Although I had planned to cease DEC-AID auctions soon, the donations of wonderful Beanies has been so fantastic that CHERISH will be listing more this week and just a few more after that.  The CHERISH website will be updated soon!

Thanks to Japanese Beanie website Beanie Tenjishitsu there are 3 more special edition packages on offfer this week - one created by 'Orion', webmaster of that site, and two created by Ty Japan retailer Takeya. These are really beautiful packages and you can view them by looking at the current CHERISH auctions here:

http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZsue_owen

Here is a preview ...

Also on auction in aid of the DEC Tsunami Appeal are the 6 Asia Pacific 2003 Flag Beanies (also donated by Beanie Tenjishitsu), each with CHERISH DEC-AID tags and card.

Starting this week also are auctions for Valentine's items, ranging from hand-made jewellery of a very unusual nature to signed Tatty Teddy items, Ty Beanies, Gund and Grateful Dead Teddies and some 'Boglin's Knitwear'. All proceeds will be donated to Children's Cancer Research, with International Childhood Cancer Day approaching on 15th February. This could be the perfect opportunity to buy a Valentine's gift - maybe even for yourself!

Thank you so much for all your continued support - I continue to be amazed at how kind and helpful people are!

  ...  CHERISH Auctions - Update
Sue Owen shares the following:
Hi,
I mentioned that there would be another (12th) auction listed this week and that will start at 9 PM this evening (GMT). It will run for 5 days in order that it will close on the same day as all the others currently running (Sunday 6th February).

The auctions have got off to a fantastic start - many thanks to all who have placed bids and to those who have publicized the CHERISH DEC-AID items.

We are well past the £1500 mark with the way the bids stand at the moment, added to what has already been raised through other DEC-AID auctions and the sale of the special CHERISH DEC-AID packages!  Here is the link to the auction starting later today (the link will not work until 9 PM GMT).

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) — If you think the media is responsible for the commercialization of a weather prognosticating rodent and the small town that celebrates it, you'd be right.

But it's not a modern phenomenon. It happened almost from the beginning in the home of Punxsutawney Phil.

Clymer Freas, an editor at The Punxsutawney Spirit in the 1800s, is credited with turning what had essentially been a German superstition celebrated locally with hunting — and eating — groundhog into what has to be one of the longest running publicity campaigns. ...

The Christian holiday of Candlemas holds that if a hibernating animal sees its shadow, winter will last another six weeks. If there's no shadow, spring will come early. ...

The entire event is run by volunteers. Johnston estimates that most club members spend 500 hours each annually planning Groundhog Day.

"If people realized how expensive Groundhog Day was to put on with fireworks ... it's an amazing expense, but again, we work all year long with license agreements," Johnston said.

The Inner Circle has never considered charging an admission and gets most of its money from licensing agreements, particularly with Ty Inc. The company makes Punxsutawney Phil Beanie Babies.

"Groundhog Day isn't really about money. You can attend Groundhog Day (and) you can have a perfectly satisfactory day and it won't cost you a penny," Johnston said.
