  ....   Retirement - And it is? .....
Thanks to Karen for sharing the following:

Hi Deb  ... I sent this to Ms Janie, and thought i'd mention it to you too.  For those who keep records of retirements, it was confusing as to which Happy Birthday bear retired, as it showed the yellow New Face one, yet it was the red pot bellied bear that moved to the retired list.  I see it has been corrected now, and the yellow New Face's photo replaced with the red pot belly's photo.  So, yellow Happy Birthday is still current, and red pot bellied is retired.   Love: Karen

  ....   M.C. Beanie Buddy
On Thursday, we posted photos shared by Marilyn of the the two 'versions' of the M.C. Beanie Buddy, comparing the brown nose vs. black nose.  Many collectors have also been wondering ... is one version more 'rare' than the other.  One of our readers, Ian, writes the following:

Hi,  I have bean watching the ebay auctions between the Mastercard Buddies Brown Nose and Black Nose and it would seem by these auctions that the Brown Nose version is indeed the rarer of the 2.   There have bean about 5 or 6 Brown Nose versions and all the rest have  the Black nose.  So it would seem that TY has gone along the same lines as when the Mastercard Babies were first introduced a small amount of the Brown and the majority being Black.  Ian

...  Thanks for sharing, Ian.  Quite an interesting observation ... I guess Tyme will tell.

....   M.C. Beanie Buddy - Brown vs Black Nose
Marilyn shares the following:
Alerted by Laura & Judy in Ms. Janie's newsletter, I checked the two M.C. beanie buddies that I received today...one has the dark background nose as does the buddy that arrived last week, but the second new arrival has the light cinnamon brown nose.  Kudos to the ladies with the sharp eyes.  Marilyn

  ....   CHERISH  Auction - Update
Sue Owen shares the following:

Hi,  I wanted to send you photographs of a beautiful package that is going on eBay tomorrow (Sunday 19th) under seller ID sue_owen to raise money for research into children’s cancers.
Please feel free to use any of the attached photos to share with your readers.

Many people will know the Ty cyberboard ID ‘Rodeo Queen’; she is a regular poster and long-term Ty collector. I had the good fortune to meet this lady once on a family holiday to
Canada. She has been a great supporter of CHERISH and has designed crochet ponchos for Ty Beanies for me to auction. Now she has ‘roped her mother in’ (to use a rodeo-sounding pun!) and Mrs Rodeo Queen Senior has knitted a simply gorgeous set of Aran sweaters: one in red to fit a child and one in white to fit Pierre Buddy. The work that has gone into the making of these sweaters is amazing – this is an intricate style of knitting and certainly not one that I have ever attempted!!! So that Pierre Beanie would not feel left out, Rodeo Queen (Junior) has made him a poncho in the same colour scheme and added Canadian flag pin badges to both bears’ garments.

The package would delight any child – or better still, you could delight a child AND keep part of it for your own collection!
I always gift wrap auction items and am happy to include a gift message if required.

I have yet more special goodies coming up for auction over the next few weeks, most of which have been donated by supporters from all over the world. The current auctions (closing on Sunday 19th February) bear testimony to that.

Coming soon we will be having fun on the kitchen! Jennifer aka PattiBuddy has been busy cooking up some amazing creations for the CHERISH Global Breakfast and you are all invited – details will follow!

Best wishes,
Sue

  ....  Next?
It's hard to believe the end of February is fast approaching!  My, how times can fly.  With the end of the month, Ty traditionally announces several retirements ... what IS on the list this time?  We can probably 'expect' the retirement of Ty Store Exclusives 'Hug Hug' and 'Lovesme' Beanie Babies soon, as well as the remaining two versions of Punxsutawney Phil (COC and retail).  Of course, there's also Garfield 'Happy Valentines Day', 'I (Love) You' bears, 'Romeo & Juliet', 'Sweetiekins', etc.  (It IS fun to try and guess which ones may retire! :)

What will be the new releases for March?  New products from the NY Toy Fair?  And of course, there's the announcement of March BBOTM.  There's lots to look forward to over the next couple of weeks!  We shall see.

A new 'Ask Ty' question and answer has been posted on Ty's website:

A: I'm quite certain that we have two world travelers . . . HERO and Peace Bear !

  ....  CHERISH - Auction Update
Sue Owen shares the following:

Hi, Just a quick update on the CHERISH eBay auctions.  This week there are several new auctions running, including Smooch-e signed by the lovely Sean Bean (of Sharpe and Lord of the Rings Fame, amongst many others and most recently appearing in North Country).  I've also added another sweater bear, Issy, to commemorate International Childhood Cancer Day, which is today, 15th February.

International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organisations (ICCCPO) estimates that up to 100,000 children die needlessly from cancer each year because they lack access to optimal treatment – that is 250 children every day, more than 10 every hour.  In 2006, ICCCPO is campaigning with SIOP and UICC to raise awareness of the need for early diagnosis of childhood cancer and access to a specialist child cancer unit for treatment, including palliative care. In developing countries it will bring hope to tens of thousands of children currently not properly treated. The earlier a child is diagnosed, the better the chance of successful treatment and recovery.

Please take the time to look at the CHERISH auctions this week and place a bid or two. I do combine mailing and will always do my best to save you P&P if possible. Mailing boxes are always used to ensure that items arrive in great condition and I pride myself on my packaging. I like to think that the recipients of CHERISH packages gain as much pleasure from opening them as they do from the actual purchase!

Many thanks for reading!  Best wishes, Sue

  ....  CHhugs - A Note from Shelley
Several years ago, we posted a page on the UK Charity - 'CHhugs', and exactly what this Charity was.

What is Chhugs? Children's Hospice Hugs! It's a group of people, brought together by their love of 'Beanies', who want to bring some additional pleasure and comfort to terminally ill children and their families. There are 190 members, spread throughout the UK - and growing. You can check out their website by clicking above ... the Charity has offered Bean Bag Plush collectibles signed by J.K. Rowling (the Harry Potter author), Bob Hope, the Spice Girls, and many more.
Click here to view the page (posted 2000/2001)

Shelley now shares the following with us ...

It's with a mixed sense of sadness and pride that I am getting in touch to tell you that after approximately 7 years CHhugs will be finishing.
Sadness because I feel that there was a whole lot more to achieve, but pride when I look back at what we have done.
I have not taken this decision lightly, but I can no longer run this totally on my own. Many people do not appreciate what it takes, and I have always tried to refer to CHhugs as 'We' when in fact it has been 99% me. I do not seek the glory and not many people know just how much I actually do. For 10 weeks running up to Christmas I spend up to 4 full days a week on the auctions. All year, I write all the letters, and send out the beanies. I organise all the donations both of money and beanies to all the hospices we support. When a request comes in it is me who tries to get it filled. And only a handful of people know that it is actually me, and not some mysterious old lady, who decorates and dresses all the themed beanies we have auctioned. Add to this recent verbal abuse from certain buyers who blame me personally for the slow delivery of the USPS, and it takes the fun out of it.
I have never publicised the amount I do because I have never done CHhugs for the glory.
Please do not think I don't appreciate the wonderful support so many of you have given to CHhugs over the years. Some of you have been great, responding to news, like the $1,500 donation we received last year. Some have donated beanies, some have donated beanies they have decorated or had signed. That support has been most gratefully received. That support has allowed us to donate about £21,500 with another £8000 or so available for the final round of donations. That's just short of £30,000 no mean feat for a few beanies. We've also donated well over 1000 beanies for the children and a around a further 150 signed items for the hospices to use for fundraising. Pretty amazing for a small idea and a few bean bags!
To close up CHhugs the following will happen.
All CHhugs beanies, both signed and unsigned will be distributed to the hospices we support all over the UK.
After all postage and packing costs have been paid, the remaining money of around £8000 will be split and sent to the hospices we support.
Beanies and money held in the US will be sent to a hospice of Barbara's choice, in CHhugs name.
I will continue to fundraise and have a couple of ideas to pursue. One will be Quiddenham children's hospice. It is my local children's hospice and because the lottery grant it received has now finished, it has just had to lay off 12 workers and cut the time available to respite children drastically. I am also considering the Norfolk Air Ambulance, and the international charity Wateraid.
I hope some of you will keep in touch. I've made a lot of friends along the way, and I thank you all.
More than that, a lot of children around the country thank you all for everything, no matter how small, that you have done for CHhugs.
Best wishes
Shelley.

Happy Valentine's Day !!!

....  More on the NY Toy Fair
To further add to yesterday's New York Toy Fair news, "I aphrodite I" posts the following on the Ty Cyberboard (a quite interesting report as well):

Talk about falling in love....
I aphrodite I   (Feb 14, 2006, 03:47 PM)
Message Id: 1084409
I aphrodite I writes:

I'm back from the Toy Show and I must say that the best of all the items introduced are the Ty Classics: Smokey, Angel and Peaches. Now I fully understand why they were a big hit when first introduced and people just fell in love.

For what I went through getting to the Toy Show, traffic and all, the puddles and mushy snow everywhere (2 hours and 10 minutes), were all wiped away when I saw these Ty Classics.

Everything about these stuffed animals is just right - very detailed, from the pinkish hue in the inner ear (which no one would probably notice unless you're a detail oriented person yourself), to the color the eyes, to the texture, feel and color of the fur. I think Ty already had it down to a science. What more, they were prototypes I was holding in my hands. My favorite of the three is Smokey. Continued...

Love at the Toy Fair (continuation)
I aphrodite I   (Feb 14, 2006, 03:59 PM)
Message Id: 1084413
I aphrodite I writes:

The jungle cat beanies are made out of fine quality material. It's a different type of fur that makes them look like closer to "real." The style also makes them really look like the "cubs" they're protraying. My favorite is Stripers. They are all adorable!

The Bow Wow beanies, to my surprise, almost look like regular beanies. There are 2 sizes, the bigger one, (which would retail for $2.50) is slightly bigger than beanies, and the smaller size (retail $2.00) is slightly smaller than beanies. As you've read from the report from Planet Beans, the Bow Wow beanies don't have beans but a squeaky toy built inside. I find the price amazing - very affordable for pet lovers.
