12:05 am EST ... In our news on Saturday afternoon, we mentioned an (anticipated) release of a Beanie Baby named 'Nibbles' to be among the group of new February products. The announcement introducing the new Beanies yesterday has it posted as 'Nibblies'. These new Beanies are now listed in Ty's current Beanie Baby list ... and sure enough, 'Nibblies' it is.

A Cyberboard post states that this 'multi-colored rabbit' will come in different color variations - (pink, blue, purple, yellow, white, and aqua foot colors). (Sounds like another possible 'Frankenteddy' type scenerio.) Guess we shall wait and see!

I stopped at my favorite store today to pick something up and the owner showed the new beanies' sheet that had just arrived in the mail.
There is:
Eggs III -A very pretty Lavendar colored bear with an egg on his chest like the other 2.
March Birthday Bear- Pale Blue color
Lullaby- White Lamb shown sitting up.
Dippy- a Mulitcolored Bunny prettier I think than Hippie.
Nibbles- a Bunny that is White and Yellow holding a carrot. Alot like Carrots from last year.
Color Me Beanie Bunny in a case shown with a blue ribbon.
4 Basket Beanies - Eggs III Eggs II Chickie Hippie
No new Buddies or Classics
Some new Boppers but I didn't write their names down. Sorry.

... Retirements?
Perhaps some retirements by Ty soon? There are 37 Beanie Buddies still 'current' and 39 Beanie Babies still 'current'. (Ty still list 'Holmes' as current, although this 'Beanie of the Month' was no longer available for ordering as of 1/1/03.) As we anticipate possible February releases by Ty soon, retirements often precede new introductions.) Guess it's a 'wait and see'.

(And just what may soon appear behind that Leprechaun's shadow at Ty Store? He's been hiding behind the window shade since last Monday, the 13th. Maybe he's waiting until 'Phil' searches for his shadow first!)

Q: Do different Beanies require different amounts of beans or is it all the same amount in each style? (submitted by victorianliving65)
A: Every Beanie Baby design requires a slight difference in the amount of beans. Some times it takes me longer to get just the right amount of beans than it does to design the product. It took 5 tries to get Seadog just right !

... Change in Frisbee's Hang Tag
12:15 am EST ... Have you noticed a change in Frisbee's hang tag? It's in regards to a 'Wham-O Inc.' trademark. The first line in the poem of one tag reads "Throw the Frisbee® Disc and watch me go" ... with a note on the left side of the hang tag which reads "Frisbee® is a registered trademark of ©2002 Wham-O, Inc. All rights reserved". The first line in the poem of the other tag reads "Throw the disc and watch me go" with no reference to Wham-O. You can view both tags on Beanie Mom's website.

... 'Beanie of the Month' Now Shipping
'Sparkles', Ty's January 'Beanie of the Month' from Ty Store, is now shipping. Several collectors who signed up for this first BOTM are reporting to have received an email confirming their shipment. 'Sparkles' was introduced on November 8, 2002, with a deadline for ordering on December 1, 2002.

... Special Announcement - 'Collectibles Extravaganza' Magazine
The premiere issue of 'Collectibles Extravaganza' Magazine was very well received by many collectors, and practically 'sold out'. This magazine offered lots of diversity though various articles written; however, the publisher feels that current market conditions do not warrant additional publications at this time.

Being a staff writer for the magazine was something I enjoyed immensely. I love to write ... and writing about my hobby (collectibles) was an experience I will always treasure. I wish to personally thank Ms. Janie (Editor in Chief) for allowing me the opportunity to do so. We will continue to run our websites and help keep the collectible hobby enthusiasts informed. ... Ty Loses Copyright Appeal
In an article posted on USA Today, the Supreme Court has rejected a copyright appeal by the maker of Beanie Babies. Ty Inc. wanted the court to clarify the standard for determining copyright infringement. The appeal came from a lawsuit Ty filed against the publisher of books illustrating the plush toys, including "For the Love of Beanie Babies."

The Info Beanie also states in the diary: "Then I drew a picture of PUNXSUTAWN-e PHIL popping out of his hole. He signed his name on it for me. He called it his autograph. I guess that when people are really famous other people like to get them to sign their names on things and these are called autographs. I guess some people even collect autographs!"

Q: Was the fabric used on the Punkies the most difficult to manufacture & if not, which fabric was? (submitted by arlene2)
A: The fabric I created for Punkies, TyTips, was challenging. I wanted a fiber that would spring back into shape but was soft to the touch. Many of our fabrics have special characteristics . . . Tylon is cool to the touch and can be produced in millions of colors and TySilk has a wonderful sheen and softness.

A 'Ty Store' response on the Ty Talk Cyberboard reports of two different versions, with two different names, of the just released Ty Store Exclusive 'Punxsutawn-e Phil' groundhog Beanie Baby.
Ty Store writes:
Thank you for your post. There are 2 different versions and in fact, 2 different names. Punxsutawn-e Phil will be sold exclusively through the Ty Store. The other version, Punxsutawney Phil will be sold through local Punxsutawney Pennsylvania retailers.

... Ty Inc. v. Publications International
Beanieholics reports:
According to the site, Law.com, the U.S. Supreme Court will be looking at several cases for consideration at its private conference on Friday, January 10th. One of the cases, which may be of interest to Beanie Baby fans, is Ty Inc. v. Publications International, No. 02-727. The case involves 'Application of fair use doctrine to books and publications using photographs of copyrighted Beanie Babies.' The justices will decide whether or not to grant review at the conference.

... Gone But Not Forgotten
A long time employee of Ty - Anne Nickles - who has been with the company from the beginning, is no longer employed at Ty. She was a great asset to the company and I'm sure will be missed by many. Although I never had personal contact with her, she indirectly verified information at times for many webmasters, including myself. She is a professional lady indeed and is highly respected. Being the 'woman behind Ty', she thought highly of the company and its products, and loved what she did. Ty, Inc. is a top plush manufacturer and will continue to be so, but with the absense of an exceptional lady. We thank you, Anne, for all your efforts, and wish you the very best in your future endeavors.
