  ...  Happy Birthday, Beanzaddiction!
Our best wishes to Hayley, webmistress of the Beanzaddiction website, who shares the following:
Please could you share the following news:
It's Beanzaddiction's third Birthday and to celebrate we're holding a little party. Complete with new design of the website and new pages, there's a new competition.  The competition requires visitors to be a bit more creative...although I know that not everyone has the time to write stories or draw pictures, so I've created a competition that will, hopefully, suit everyone. Visitors can submit their name and email address for one entry in the draw. However, if visitors want to stand a better chance of winning, they can increase their chances by earning bonus entries. By drawing, sharing opinions, stories, poems...anything...just being creative!

Plus, I'm really excited - It's the big Spring Fair at Birmingham's NEC this weekend. I'll be reporting from the fair, and will send newsletters through my topica list throughout the day, as I can't update the website from the NEC. If collectors would like to recieve the news from Ty, Tatty Teddy, Diddl and others, there's details about my newsletter on my website. I'll have a full report online after I arrive home from Birmingham. Two years ago I met Mr Warner himself at the fair...I'm curious to know if he's planning to show this year too. lol!
Thanks for you help,  Have a great evening, Hayley

  ...  Next?
It's hard to believe the end of January is already here.  We should anticipate a busy week at Ty, with February releases (Including the Feb 2004 BBOTM).  Also, with Groundhog Day only two days away (February 2nd), perhaps the retirement of Punxsutawney (and Punx-e) Phil'?  We'll surely keep you updated with the latest 'happenings'.

  ...  CHERISH Auction Updates
Sue Owen writes:
Many thanks to all the generous bidders for making last week's auctions so successful. Another £400 has been added to the £1000 total raised so far through the CHERISH DEC-AID Tsunami Earthquake Appeal.

This really is a global effort to help and this week's auctions illustrate just what can be achieved when helping hands stretch out across the world to each other. My thanks to the webmasters of Japanese collectors' sites
Bottega Beanies and Beanie Tenjishitsu for their help in both this week's and next week's auctions.

There are 11 auctions starting today and hopefully a 12th started in a day or two. Today's auctions have a Japanese theme and comprise a Special Edition of 5 Japanese Exclusive Beanies presented with special accessories and beautifully packaged in Ty Japan gift boxes with Ty ribbon. Each Bear (Sakura II and Nipponia) has a numbered ear tag as well as special card from the Ty Japan retailer responsible for making the packages -
Baobabu-no-ki ). Each bear also wears a CHERISH DEC-AID ear and neck tag and has a CHERISH DEC-AID card.

The bears have each been dressed in a wonderful kimono and fur 'boa'. There is a theme of the Japanese Crane and more information can be found by reading the CHERISH website at
www.cherishonline.co.uk or by viewing the auctions under seller ID sue_owen or through this link

The 5 auctions are starting and closing at 2 hourly intervals to give everyone, wherever they live, a chance to bid if they wish.

Also starting later today are 6 auctions featuring CHERISH DEC-AID tagged Asia Pacific 2004 Flower Beanies donated by 'Beanie Tenjishitsu',

Please look out for one more auction starting soon. I hope to time it so that it will finish on the same day as the other 11!

Best wishes, Sue

Ty Warner (Jan 28, 2005, 05:20 PM)
Message Id: 924112

Ty Warner writes:
I was shocked to see the auctions for my prototypes. I have not given anyone the authority to sell these items. I do not know how they found their way out of our office, or if they are even authentic. Please know one thing is for certain, I will find out how this happened and who is responsible. I ask you not to bid on any prototypes until I have resolved this issue. If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of my prototypes please email my office at contact@ty.com.  Thank you for your help and your continued support.

Q: You must be a great artist to make such beautiful Beanies. Do you do any other activities related to art? (submitted by horsechickie92)
A: Thank you for the wonderful compliment, although I really don't think of myself as a great artist. I truly enjoy designing, creating and working with different colors, textures and materials. I guess you could say most of my life is related to art !

  ...  Updated Lists
As most of you are aware, there are a variety of reference lists on this site.  (They are all acessible from the main page of the site. under the proper heading.)  One of the more thorough list is the
Exclusive Beanie Babies list.  I would like to personally thank everyone who has helped with their efforts in keeping all the lists updated ... particularly information that is not readily available unless the actual Beanie is 'in hand'.  Karen (aka KarenBrit) has recently provided me with some information on minor changes that needed to be made ... I'll learn how to alphabetize soon!  (We did have a snicker at 'Daisy Harry Caray', given away at Wrigley Field in 1998 ... I had the poor cow listed as "Hairy"!  Are cows really 'hairy' anyway?  LOL)

  ...  Thank you!
I wish to thank all of you who sent your special birthday wishes to me. I have read all the emails and cyber cards sent ... some were serious, some funny, and all a joy to read.  (Did a little birdie named 'Lenetta' start this
'rumor'?!  :)    (I do think it's amazing how 365 days goes by so much quicker each year! Wonder why?!)

Ty has announced the retirement of 'Ai', the Japan Exclusive Beanie Baby.  'Ai' was introduced on  April 28, 2003, and was one of six in the Asia-Pacific Exclusives.  The other five in this AP group were Singabear, Kiwiana, Wirabear, Coreana, and Aussiebear.  All six bears are identical multi-colored (tye-dyed) bears except for the respective flag for the country that it represents - and the ribbon and nose color.  These five bears retired on November 7, 2003.

...   Punxsutawney Phil - 'Chamber of Commerce Version' Sale Day

Source: The Punxsutawney Spirit
By Tom Chapin Of The Spirit
PUNXSUTAWNEY - There was a line Wednesday to purchase the prized 2005 Punxsutawney Phil Beanie Babies, but it didn't quite stretch the whole way down the block.

In fact, it just barely stretched down to Hair Trends, but that was OK by the staff and volunteers at Phil's Souvenir Shop, which enjoyed a steady stream of Beanie-seekers all day.

"Today went as well as we thought it would go," said Janie Juliette-Lowry, manager of Phil's Souvenir Shop, which began sales of the exclusive red-tie Beanie Phils at 9 a.m. Wednesday. "We're about halfway there."

Retail black-tie Beanie Phils also went on sale Wednesday at local Ty retailers.

"There was a very steady stream of customers," Juliette-Lowry said. "It was really nice."

She credited much of the quick in-and-out purchasing to having two purchase points at the counter - one for cash and checks, another for credit cards - as well as efficient help from staff and volunteers.

Even though the line didn't reach proportions such as those for the 2004 and 2003 Beanie Phil sales, that was OK.

"I was in at 6 a.m., and I thought, 'Not a soul,'" Juliette-Lowry said. "At 7:15 a.m., I heard the chatter (outside)."

Even after the shop closed at 5 p.m., the phones were "still ringing off the hook" from those wanting to place orders.

Juliette-Lowry praised the Phil's Souvenir Shop staff and volunteers for their help on the first day of the sale.

"We thought last year was smooth; this year was so much better collectively," she said.

Due to a limited number of the red-tie Beanie Phils, the toy could become a collector's item quicker than expected. Sales resume today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you are going to Las Ventanas al Paraiso, book treatments at the seven-cabana spa long before you arrive - many guests particularly like the Sea & Stars night massage. Las Ventanas, which is now owned by Beanie Babies' owner Ty Warner, is not primarily a beach place. The really knowledgeable Beautiful Bodies here congregate around the S-shaped pool, where butlers offer water sprays, complimentary sorbets and filled iPods. Following yesterday news, the following is an update of 'Phil' ...

Beanie Babies Honor Punxsutawney Phil
Toys Available In Pennsylvania Home Of Famous Groundhog
PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. -- Beanie Baby lovers won't have to wait until Feb. 2 for Punxsutawney Phil to poke his head out of the ground.  Ty Co., the makers of the popular stuffed toys, said their 2005 Punxsutawney Phil beanies should be ready for sale Jan. 12.  Punxsutawney's Groundhog Club, the town's chamber of commerce and a souvenir shop will sell the beanie Phils, which come with three different colored bow ties.  The new Phils are said to be different from tens of thousands of Phil beanies sold the last two years -- the little guy is said to be fuzzier and fatter this year, and he's wearing a bigger hat.  Past proceeds from the Beanie Baby sales helps the Groundhog Club purchase Gobbler's Knob, the plot of land where the real Phil makes his annual appearance and, some say, predict when winter will end.

  ...  Where Are They?
The Boppers and Teenie Boppers links are missing from the hearts on the main page of Ty's website.  Both lines were silently retired on December 30th.  You can view these products, however, by clicking on one of the hearts/links of the other product lines on the main page of Ty's site.  (Should we anticipate new product lines soon??? :)  We shall see!)

...  Operation Beanie Babies Exceeds Goal ... Expands Beyond Iraq

The Grand Rapids Press
Friday, December 31, 2004
When Mary Green started collecting Beanie Babies to send to children in Iraq, the Holland woman set a goal of sending 2,000 of the stuffed toys overseas.  Then the goal grew to 5,000. Then 10,000.  Now, more than 17,000 Beanie Babies later, donations still are streaming in. And the mission of Operation Beanie Babies has expanded beyond Iraq. ...

"The collecting, mailing and distributing of Beanie Babies was a project conceived from compassion and the desire to help bring happiness to children," Mazzarella said. "The children back home, as we know, have the opportunity to receive so much because we have so many more opportunities. The people back home are making Iraqi children happy, especially at this time of the year." ...

While the primary focus of Operation Beanie Babies has been Iraq, the campaign has expanded. The stuffed toys are now being sent to orphans in Afghanistan, where U.S. troops are stationed, as well as to mission orphanages in Baja, Mexico, and Guatemala, Green said. ...

Along the way, people in the community have stepped forward with donations to pay for shipping the Beanie Babies.

  ...  CHERISH News / Update
Sue Owen writes:
Happy New Year!
The CHERISH website at
www.cherishonline.co.uk has been updated with a look back at 2004 so that you can revisit some of the fundraising events that took place over the last year in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Although CHERISH has not officially launched its fundraising for 2005 we could not sit by and ignore the desperate plight of the victims of the Tsunami Disaster.  Yes, CHERISH collect for life does usually fundraise for Cancer Research UK but on occasion (and always stated clearly at the time) funds are raised for other worthwhile causes and this is one of those time. The Disasters Emergency Committee ('DEC') includes the following charities as its member agencies:

Tear Fund
Oxfam
British Red Cross
Save the Children
Christian Aid
Help the Aged
Merlin
Concern
Care
Cafod
Action Aid

Items already donated to CHERISH for fundraising for Cancer Research UK will be reserved for that purpose. Therefore anything that is used to raise funds for the DEC Tsunami Appeal comes from my personal collection or has been donated for that purpose.

The first item being offered by auction in aid of the Tsunami Appeal is a Ty Beanie Baby Sweater designed to your specification and knitted by me for your favourite Beanie Baby (or that of a friend!)  This auction starts on Sunday 2nd January on
www.ebay.co.uk and is available to bidders worldwide.  The link below will NOT work until 22.00 GMT on Sunday 2nd January when the auction begins:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5947234480

Please bid generously for this item - a lot of love will be put into its creation and I would appreciate a lot of love in the spirit of bidding!

If you would like to look at some of my past knitwear designs there are 2 Yahoo Photo albums with pictures to browse at these links:

I was talking with my friend Countdown and I came up with an idea. Let's think of poems with a 2004 year in review theme. You be the poet and I'll be the judge. I'll sign Countdown for the best poem posted. Let's get this party . . . started !
