Snowy and Cold!
As you're probably aware, a good part of the country has been inundated with
very cold weather, and snow/ice (including us). As we move our thoughts a
bit ahead, let's hope Mr. Groundhog doesn't see his shadow on Tuesday!
Yes, I think we're ready for Spring. :) (According to legend, if the
groundhog sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather!)

Renewed Excitement
Are you a long-time collector, and remember 'the way it was'?
David does, and shares the following:
Deb,
I just wanted to drop you a line to say that I really appreciate the work you're doing to keep the Beanie excitement going! For me, it's getting harder to find Beanies. There is one Hallmark an hour from where I live that just recently started getting new Beanies again. (They even had several of the Beanie Boos!) Other than that, I have to rely on Walgreens, which usually only carry holiday or Walgreen exclusive Beanies.
But I have to say, lately I've been getting much more excited about the new releases! Especially with your announcement of February's releases, I'm gaining more interest in what's coming out--something that I didn't have for a couple years. It seems like maybe Ty is going back to some of the ways us veteran collectors remember: no BB2.0, less copy-catting, and more simple, cute Beanies. Of course, I'm also super stoked about the new Peace bears! Sort of makes me want to get back into the Peace Mania business again, but time just doesn't allow for it. Of course, I will be buying as many of the variations as I can to add to my Peace bear collection. haha
Thanks again for keeping the spark alive. I've been enjoying the way you only reveal bits of interest at a time. Sort of takes me back to the days that were filled with wild rumors and when the phrases "expect the unexpected" and "Tyme will tell" actually meant something.
David

New Releases
As you know, and as I noted earlier, new products for February / March are
just around the corner. Just keep an eye on the Ty website. :)
Some of the new (anticipated) releases are quite different (and yes, some
very similar) to products from the past. Just keep in mind, as always,
nothing is 'written in stone' until it's official. A good example is
'Gus', the gecko. It appears that the 'next' Gus MAY have different
color eyes that the first issue. Bently the cat may or may
not have a collar. And Scooby-Doo Ty Classic may be Scooby-Dooby Doo.
No one knows for sure until they are announced and/or we see the hang tags.
I do know, from all
the emails received ... there seems to be sparked interest lately,
especially with some of the new products. We know the history of past
Beanies will NEVER be the same ... but the memories will always be there.
Collecting Beanies is a hobby some just can't give up; some buy certain ones
as they're just too irresistible. Whatever the reason, enjoy and happy
collecting!

A Self-Made Ty Jacket
Thanks to Barb (The Shutterbug) for sharing another one of her crafty ideas
:) She writes:
... Thanks for sharing, Barb ... once again, such originality!
Doodles—one more time— When TY ended its association with MasterCard plan I was left with quite a few credits. I acquired these two sweat shirts in the only size they had left— Men’s XLARGE. Of course they were huge on me so I altered them. I slit them down the front and sewed on fun binding ribbon –then I shortened the sleeves and WAA-LAA—had 2 great casual, and very warm, toss on jacket coats, perfect for around the house or a quick run to the grocery.
The fun continues,

A Groundhog Day ... and Valentines Display
Our
special thanks to Xavier, who shares a photo shot of his Ty products ... this time it's a
Groundhog Day and Valentines' treat. Nice
collection!
Hello Deb, Here are some new pictures I took of my Valentine's Day display you can share with your readers! As you can see, I still have not added this years pieces to my collection. I may get them at a later time due to low funds LOL. Also included are my groundhog day beanies, Punxsutawney Phils. I am only missing 2. The ty Store exclusive Punxsutawney Phil from 2007 and the first Phil released in PA, who sold out within hours and is valued at over $100. I've had a friend help me fill in my gaps on this Phil collection and I am very thankful for her!
Again, thank you for your newspage. Its really the only one left. .... Hope all is well and talk to you soon!! Xavier from NW IN/CHICAGO (CHGO RICAN BOI on ty talk)

On Tuesday, we posted the style numbers of the Jelly Belly Hello Kitty

I just got my Hello Kitty Jelly Belly beanies today and I've got different numbers on mine: 40813 on the solid red bow w/ heart knot and 40814 on the bow with white hearts on it. Thought I read differently on your daily news. Did I miss something?

Walgreens Hello Kitty Jelly Belly Info
Our thanks
to Rosaleen, who kindly shares the hang tag information, style numbers, and more
on the Walgreens Hello Kitty Jelly Belly Beanie Babies. She writes:
Hi Deb, I notice that you have already received pictures of the Walgreens Hello Kitty pieces. I would just like to add that there is no mention on the tag that they're Walgreens exclusives. Needless to say mine have had their candy packets removed already-not for eating though. The style number is the same on both-40814 and they're the same as the Hello Kitty style number 40817. The inside of the hang tags are different. Style number 40814 reads Hello Kitty was born November 1st in London, England. Her hobbies include travel, music, reading and making new friends. Style number 40817 reads HELLO KITTY You can never have too many friends. Another difference is the bows. Style # 40814 comes with either a red bow with small white valentines or a red bow with a large red heart for the center. The regular Hello Kitty style # 40817 has just a regular small red bow.
Bear hugs, Rosaleen
Doodle's
note:
The store display box mentions 'available only at Walgreens'; however, there
is no mention on the hang tag. :)

Exclusives and More (Update)
As a follow-up to yesterday's post, we have received the
following emails ...
I agree about the challenge of finding Beanie Babies. I live in Jacksonville, NC, which is in the eastern part of the state. None of the Hallmark stores in my area carry beanies anymore. I can usually find the Walgreens exclusive and seasonal beanies at Walgreens. For a long time, I could find them all at Cracker Barrel, but they now seem to carry mostly seasonal ones. Lately, the best place for me to find them has been at our Books a Million Store here in town. I also internet shop to find the ones I miss in the stores. Cindy W.
Hi Deb - Just checked out your site, and thought I would let you know that I have very few places in my area (Ithaca, NY, Finger Lakes region of NY state) that still carry Beanies. The few places that have them, a few drug stores, a grocery store, seem to not have ordered any of the newest ones. I too get most of my Beanies off Internet websites, although once in awhile I will try to find the Walgreen exclusives at a Walgreen's that is about a 30 minute drive from me. I usually call first, to see if they have them in. Hope you had a nice weekend !! Mary
Hi Deb: Just commenting on your post about beanies....yes, you are correct......it seems as if beanies at Hallmarks are on their way out. Many Hallmarks have discontinued ordering of beans long ago and/or order only VERY LIMITED number of them. The prices have gone up to $7.95 on all beans (2.0 and regular lines) at many locations and the exclusives have been much harder to find this year. Walgreens and many grocery stores now carry beans priced at $4.99; why would anyone buy them at Hallmark? You can use the Gold Crown rewards certificate on Hallmark exclusives, IF, you can find them and IF there will be any more created.
Dollar stores becoming so popular in this ecomony with people buying XMAS and all occasion gift wrap & cards, there is no doubt more Hallmark franchises will be closing down this year. That's all for now...Happy Belated Birthday to You! Nancy Canton, GA
We live close to columbus oh so we can still find plenty of beanies. We used to live in VA and they were actually being easier to find in stores! more stores were carrying them... Make sure and check your local giant stores. They sometimes carry beanies, but they will charge 7.00 apiece. christina
Doodle's added note:
... If you are having trouble locating Beanies, and do 'internet shop', I
personally recommend the 'Fabric
Friends and Dolls' website. As a
side note, starting tomorrow, they will be running a free shipping special in
the United States/Canada for all Ty products (or Webkinz products, can mix and
match) when you spend $100 in the store on those products. A lot of things are
on discount. (They have even gone the extra mile in helping me locate a couple
of items I haven't been able to find.)

Exclusives and More
From several
emails I have received, it appears another Walgreens' Exclusive Beanie Baby may
be available soon. As you know, there have been no Hallmark Exclusives for
some time. Looks like those may be a thing of the past. (My
personal opinion, anyway.) So Walgreens in, Hallmark out? We shall
see.
Beanie Babies seem to be harder and harder to find, and I do know there are quite a few new Beanies 'on the horizon'. So where are we to find them? I personally enjoy 'Internet shopping' ... it's easier and in many cases, a cost savings. It's especially nice on these cold winter days, shopping in the warmth of my home! :)
I just don't see many Ty products in my area anymore. Wish to share your opinion? Do you find what you're looking for in your area? Feel free to drop me a note at news@doodlespage.com.

Ty Store Update
Our thanks to Rosaleen, who shares the following:
Hi Deb, I hope that you're doing well. I was just checking out the Ty store and I noticed that within the past couple of days Ty has added a new section to the store. He now has the Ice Age Beanies - Buck, Diego, Manny and Sid all listed for the price of $5.99 each. Perhaps someone else may be able to confirm the exact date for us.
Bear hugs, Rosaleen
Click here to view Ice Age Beanies in Ty Store
Rosaleen further adds:
I would like to wish you a Happy Belated Birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Did you also notice that Ty has dropped the price on all of the boxed Angeline pieces to $4.99 each? They were originally $7.99 each. I decided to do a "wee bit" more searching and discovered that. Also Max and Ruby have disappeared from the list. I did a search on the Ty store and it came up "no matches found"
Bear hugs and again a Belated Happy Birthday!

One of our readers, Rosaleen, shares the following:
Hi Deb,
Did you notice that Ty says a portion of the sale of the Valentine beanies on the homepage say Help Haiti? Now I am wondering if that includes all of the Valentine beanies or just certain ones. An added note from a reader:
Hi Deb:
Just some added info on the new Walgreens set that you have posted since December 26th -They arrived 3 weeks later at a local Walgreens here in my neighborhood. Not many locations had them in at last check, on Friday; they may be limited in availability. One box of 20 (for those that did get them) and the numbers are 6 each of the red and brown and 8 of the white bears. I'm a little disappointed in this issue, as the faces are much smaller (mousey looking) in comparison to the first set, and it seems the amount of beans stuffed in these bears has been reduced also. This is just my personal opinion.

A Note From Karen
Karen Holmes (aka Karenbrit), Editor of Ty Beanies Tracker, has sent
the following message which we'd like to share:
Hi All
2010? What happened to the years between us talking about Millennium beanie baby with 1 ‘n’ and 2 ‘n’s, to now? Amazing how time flies and I wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year.
For those keeping track of things since the Third Edition Book, I'm sorry I've not updated since September 2009, but hospital visits and other things had to take priority. To those who have been keeping good records from September 2009 to now, please contact me in February 2010 and I'll try to find time to work on getting everything up-to-date. Thank you Deb, www.doodlespage.com for keeping the candle burning in Beanie Land!
To those who were asking about my collection, yes, I am still selling it, that also took a back burner for a while, and I have just updated the list on my website taking off what has sold and leaving what is remaining. I did drop the prices on some, and am willing to go down on some other higher ones, so see if there's anything you need to fill the gaps in your collections or to give as gifts.
http://www.karenbrit.com/extras.html
I think I have to be the slowest seller on earth listing on ebay. I seem to have a knack for complicating it, and at the speed I list, the chances are you'll have time to grab what you want off my website before I get it to ebay, or elsewhere, to sell. Please do stay in touch.
Love: Karen

A Few Additions/Changes to Ty's Listings
Finally ... 'Hippity' and 'Hoppity" have made it to Ty's current list.
(Both were introduced by Ty on January 1st.) And the Ty Girlz 'Amazing
Abby' and 'Beautiful Briana' are listed as 'retired' (click
here) on Ty's main website, although there is no mention of their
retirement on the
Ty Girlz website.
Our thanks to Rosaleen, who writes:
Hi Deb, I was checking the Ty site and the two bunnies-Hippity and Hoppity have been added to the current beanie baby list as was Smitten-he/she has finally come out of hiding. I also noticed that the Ty Girlz-Amazing Abby and Beautiful Brianna are no longer on the current list. Also the Classics-Dipper and Dreamland are missing. The Hello Kitty pieces still haven't been corrected and not all of them have been added-the Hello Kitty beanie bunnies are still missing as are the key-clips-Snoopy and Woodstock. Perhaps we might get caught up before the February releases. Still no news on the Lil' Ones-I guess.

Ty Products - Update
I know many (especially long time) collectors have been wondering
(especially lately) what is going on with Ty. The website isn't
currently up-to-date, retirements are almost nil, recent releases seem a tad
'boring' to some. etc. But from word I have been receiving, it's not
over yet. Maybe just a little lull in the air ... it is quite cold in

example, there's no sign of 'Smitten' Beanie Baby anywhere on Ty's site.

Where Are They?
One of our readers,
Steve from Wales, shares the following:
Hi Deb, Have I missed something? No one seems to have mentioned the 'non appearance' of a Billionaire Bear for 2009... is this a reflection of Ty's attitude to his Beanie Babie business? I think it sad that Ty seems to be 'indifferent' to the many years of loyalty shown by his fans and collectors '...a case in point with his non updating of the 'current' list on his web site! I know people refer to the old adage 'Expect the unexpected' but does this really account for the apparent 'indifference' currently being shown by Ty?

Doodle's note:
I thought perhaps the
December releases would at least appear on Ty's current list when the
January introduction appeared. But as of yet, that hasn't happened.
And after eleven Billionaire bears, we all "expected" to hear something
regarding a Billionaire 12. But unless I missed something as well,
that didn't happen either. Mention was made several months ago from a
reader, wondering if #12 was even in existence. It seems Ty is slowly
dissolving, evaporating from this "collectible hobby". Perhaps we
'expected' a more abrupt halt than the slow dissipation of Beanies. I
suppose, as we say ... "tyme will tell" once again.

Good Afternoon Deb,
I was checking the website and found that Ty has released a couple of new pieces and also he has re-released some others. There are two new beanie bunnies-Hoppity and Hippity-very cute-I like the patterened feet and ears. Also two Hello Kitty pieces with bunny ears. Two new key-clips: Snoopy and Woodstock. Ty has re-released three of the basket beanies from a prior year-Bobsy, Hobsy and Topsy. In addition there is a Classic re-release Fielding the rabbit.

DANHappy New Year to you and yours. Thank you so much for continuing to cover Beanie Baby news on your site. Just a short note to make an observation that the Basket Beanies (Bobsy, Hobsy and Topsy) that Ty introduced for January of 2010 are NOT new... I think this trio was introduced in February of 2007. Does anyone else agree? Just wondering,
