....  Wealthy Ty Warner, Inventor of Beanie Babies, Wants Privacy
Source:  thetimesonline.com
You may not immediately recognize the name Ty Warner, but the people of Westmont, Ill., certainly appreciate his generosity.
I took my parents to an afternoon lunch matinee of "Do Black Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?" last Thursday at Theatre at the Center in Munster, and was pleased we shared our table with a group of senior citizens who were part of a bus trip from Westmont.

Identical twins Doris and Dorothy Karl, 75, told me they live together in retirement condos just across the street from Ty Warner Park in Westmont.

They asked my parents if they knew who Ty Warner was (they thought they were saying Time-Warner?).

Warner is the man who invented Beanie Babies in 1993. He is the CEO and sole founder of Ty Inc. and his estimated wealth, according to "Forbes" magazine, is nearly $5 billion. He recently donated the 36-acre park, complete with elegant fountains, playgrounds and rose gardens, in Westmont that the Karl twins and so many others enjoy every day.

Warner, who lives just a few miles away in Oakbrook, Ill., will celebrate his 62nd birthday in September. He's never married, rarely, if ever grants interviews to the media and he's very reclusive, according to Dorothy.

"His company's office headquarters are right next to the condos where we live, but there are no signs marking the location," Dorothy said.

"There used to be signs, but too many people bothered him. And still today, we still get these soccer moms knocking on our door asking which building is his office trying to get these stuffed toys autographed."

  ....  August Ty Releases
It's almost tyme for the Ty introductions for August, with a few 'rumors' afloat as to what may be up Ty's sleeve.  The 'unexpected' has evolved over the last couple of weeks, with unannounced Beanie Babies (Northwestern Mutual and U.S. Open Exclusives).  If the 'rumors' are true, we may see a bit of a twist for next months' releases - just a tad different than what one may expect.  Curiosity builds as we patiently wait!  :)  Just keep an eye on the Ty website ... we'll keep you posted here as well.

... Update:

Terry from Singapore kindly shares a photo of an error in the 'Alpha' Bear just received, and writes:

Hey all,
Juz want to share the attached pic with everyone, it's an oddity of alpha... I had juz received my package a few days back... and there's a total of 15 alpha in the bag...  while going through the bears 1 by 1, trying to pick a bear that 'scream keep me'... I saw this one bear that totally stand out from the rest...  instead of 'Angel Flight', it stated 'Ahngel Flight'...  I know the pic is kind of blur... so sorry about that...  This is the 1st time after many years of collecting Ty I got some thing 'different'...

....  New Northwestern Mutual Beanie Babies
Karen and Cheryl have shared eBay auction news with Ms Janie.  What has been discovered?  Two new Bears named 'Discover' - Northwestern Mutual Beanie Babies - so far, unannounced by Ty.   They look similar to 'Promise' (blue and gold versions) - introduced last year by Ty on July 23, 2005.  Isn't it a bit strange that these new "yet to be officially introduced" Beanies are suddenly appearing?  Hmmm  - Just what is up Ty's sleeve? We shall see as tyme passes.  (A Canadian Exclusive 'Discover' Bear was introduced on August 15, 2004 and retired January 4, 2005.)  Confused yet?

....   A Note from the Ty Warner Sea Center
Posted on the Ty Cyberboard today:

Finn has arrived at the Sea Center!
Ty Warner Sea Center   (Jul 20, 2006, 07:58 AM)
Message Id: 1113333

Ty Warner Sea Center writes:
All proceeds from the sale of Finn will help support our education and conservation efforts. Because we are a nonprofit marine science museum which specializes in educating the public about marine stewardship, we do not have the infrastructure to take phone orders or online orders. While we appreciate the many requests for phone orders, we are unable to accommodate them at this time. We tried this once in the past with the limited edition Opie, unfortunately our website crashed as did our phone system. By no means do we want to exclude anyone from obtaining Finn, we just can not handle the volume of requests and still fulfill our mission to inspire a passion for the natural world. We appreciate your understanding and support.
Sincerely,
Jenny Theodorou
Director of the Ty Warner Sea Center

  ....  Yesterday and Today's Toys
Below is an interesting article that will bring back a bit of nostalgia to many people.   Do you know the time period some of the toys evolve from ... ie. Crayola crayons, Raggedy Ann. Madame Alexander dolls?  What toys are on the top Spring 2006 wish list?  Click on the link below to read the entire article.

Yesterday and today's toys
Play items adapt to each generation's wants, needs
Published: Tuesday, Jul. 18, 2006

Who doesn’t love toys? Everyone had a favorite growing up, and most people had an item or two that was always on the wish list but that they never got. Toys have changed dramatically through the last 100 years. Forbes magazine’s list of the top toys of the last 100 years starts off with simple items, including Crayola Crayons (1900-09), Raggedy Ann dolls (1910-19), Madame Alexander dolls (1920-29), the View Master 3D (1930s), the Candy Land board game (1940s), and then gets more complex with Mr. Potato Head in the 1950s, GI Joe action figures (1960s), the Rubik’s Cube (1970s) and back to simple with Cabbage Patch Kids (1980s) and Beanie Babies (1990s).

  ....   CHERISH News
Sue Owen shares the following with us
This Sunday 9th June at 2pm (UK time) 50 special CHERISH Race for Life bears will be available for purchase from the CHERISH website at www.cherishonline.co.uk
Race for Life is a women-only 5km walk or run in aid of Cancer Research UK.  Events are taking place in venues all over UK at the moment.

The 2006 bear is Smitten, who looks beautiful with the bears from the previous two years:  Deep Pink and Lilac Sherbet.  Smitten comes with her own little medal, just like her predecessors, bearing the words 'CHERISH Race for Life 2006' and Smitten's face.  Many thanks to 'Winning Ways' as usual!

This year every bear also has her own towel to wear after the event, thanks to the hard work of Sue of 'DS Embroidery'.  This little towel has been machine-embroidered with Smitten's face and the words
'CHERISH Race for Life 2006' . Smitten wears a CHERISH deep pink on white extra ear tag and a running number on her back, numbered from 1-50.  Each bear will cost £15 (with all proceeds going to my Race for Life sponsorship in aid of Cancer Research UK) plus P&P of your choice to UK or overseas addresses.  Payment is via PayPal.   All ordering details will be posted on the CHERISH website this Sunday from 2pm (UK time).  Please remember to refresh the Home Page when visiting the site to view updated information.

The first 10 people to make their purchase will be offered the chance to buy one of ten other special bears.  If they decline the offer, it will be passed to the next person to purchase Smitten.

Those supporters who have already sponsored me through my Justgiving page will be given priority in ordering Smitten, as promised.  Many thanks for your kind support.
I take part in the Reading Race for Life on Wednesday 19th July and will post a report and photos after the event.

Best wishes,
Sue Owen

  ....  Thank YOU  !
Earlier today, as I read various posts on the Ty Cyberboard, I came across notes from several collectors ... thanking various Beanie websites for their efforts in keeping collectors informed.   I wish to also thank YOU, the collector, for visiting us - for helping us to keep current with all the Beanie 'happenings'.  I started this website over 11 years ago, shortly after Beanies were first introduced.  This website is a dear hobby I have enjoyed more than words can express - the friends I have 'met' along the way is beyond anything I ever imagined.  My main intention is to keep this site 'informational', with current news, archived news, various lists, etc. that you can reference when unsure about certain 'facts'.  Every Beanie website on 'the net' is different, unique in its own way.  "Bouncing" around from one site to another, you are guaranteed to catch all the latest news collectively.  There's MUCH more I could say ... for now ... a huge THANK YOU.    (and of course, thank you, Ty Warner!)  Without all of you, we wouldn't be here!

We hope you had a safe and happy July 4th celebration.  (We celebrated with family and friends ... and enjoyed a day off from work!  :)

We can probably 'expect' to soon see the retirement of several Ty products, including the Ty Store Exclusive Beanie 'First Dog'.  The newest July releases (announced on June 30th) should be showing up in stores this week.  Of course, BBOM members should find 'Tortuga' the turtle in their mailbox soon as well.

....  Ty Beanies Tracker Book (2nd Edition) - Update Sheets
KarenBrit writes the following:

Hi, I am very excited.  I have been working on putting together information and photographs to bring your Beanie book up-to-date as of June 15th, 2006, and have had a limited amount of booklets professionally printed.  These can be inserted into the back of your book, if you have your book in a CombBind locally, or you can keep them separately.  Details of how to do this are at the bottom of the page at the link below.  I have included photo's of Beanie Babies released since the book came out, and those that have seen them are very happy to have something in printed format to review

If you would like to read more about them, or order them, please click on the link below. I wanted to be sure to let those whom I've dealt with in the past, have a chance to get these, as I am not sure if I'll have them reprinted if I run out.  Looking forward to hearing from you.

Ty has introduced 'Tortuga', an adorable turtle - the July 2006 Beanie Baby of the Month.  If you are a BBOM member, you should expect to see this Beanie in your mailbox soon.

Doodle's Note:  Perhaps this turtle's name was derived from the upcoming movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which is scheduled to be released in the UK and Australia on July 6th, and in the U.S. on July 7th.    'Johnny' (a recently reported trademark application by Ty - reported by Sly the Beanie Guy) may also be an upcoming Beanie from the same movie???  Tyme will tell :)

Poem:

I don't hear a single sound
So I'll take a look around
If I see something that I fear
I'll hide until the coast is clear !

....   BBOM - A Little Bit of History
On November 8, 2002, Ty introduced the "Beanie of the Month" program.  The first Beanie Baby in the series was 'Sparkles', arriving in January 2003.  Each month, a new Exclusive Beanie Baby will arrive at your door - if you signed up to receive all 12 Beanies for the year.  'Tortuga' is the 43rd Beanie Baby to be released in the BBOM program.
