One of our readers. Chris, shares a photo of the Teenie Beanie Baby 'Yammy'.  (I do not yet have this one; perhaps you can answer the question?)   Chris writes:

Is it me or did I receive a super rare Yammy the Cat?  My son noticed it and I thought it was normal till I tried to find one like it online.  Notice the black around the eyes and they point in the opposite direction.  I don’t have more Yammys to compare with….-Chris

Several readers have inquired about the possible variation in size of these two Yammys.  I was curious as well, and wrote to Chris:

Doodle wrote:  "Chris - The eyes on both the Yammy's are definitely different.  Strange!  And why do they look like different sizes? ... are they the same and just an illusion?  Is it me?  :)"
Chris replied:  "haha... They are the same.  It's just an illusion.  I needed more light on them and was too lazy to pull out my SLR.  Thanks for your help!   -Chris"

I know you've probably read a few articles on the McDonald's Teenie Beanie Baby promotion.  But I came across this one that I found interesting and wanted to share.  Do you know when and what the first Happy Meal special prize was?  It went national in 1979 in McDonald's restaurants, was created by Dick Brams, and was called "McDonaldland Fun-to-Go".  The first Happy Meal was sold in a 'Circus Wagon Train box' and the special prizes were a McDoodler stencil, puzzle lock, McWrist Wallet, ID bracelet, spinning top, and an assortment of McDonaldland character erasers.  

Did you also know ... For the 10-day period after the Ty Teenie Beanie Babies were launched in April 1997, over 100 million Happy Meals were sold. And, the second Ty Teenie Beanie Baby promotion in 1998 sold even more (250 million) Happy Meals.

We have recently posted news on TBB's (in Canada), the Chicago Cubs game Exclusive 'Diego', and status on the future of Ty MasterCard Bears.  Below are updates for each .... (with thanks to all who have shared their news!).

 

Hi Doodles,
I went on my daily walk to McD's this morning. Am still not able to buy 10-15 but I was given the happy meal box that lists 15 teenies. You have the first 9
listed and 10-15 will be:

10) Ming
11) Grimace
12) Skunkers
13) Frostiness
14) Oasis
15) Celebration (brown birthday bear with hat)

There is still no definitive information regarding the number of bears in the set but the manager that I was talking with today expects another promotion (appears from the box that it will have to do with lego) to begin after 15. She is NOT sure, however. I am convinced that one must live near a McDonald's to do this. Those whose McD's are 30 or more miles away are definitely at a major disadvantage.

Dan of CA also alerts us to a Chicago Cubs Exclusive game giveaway on August 14, 2009.  The Chicago Cubs website states "Exclusive limited-edition Cubs Dora the Explorer 7" plush".  (View the Cubs promo schedule here).  It is unsure if this is a Ty 'Dora'.  A Ty  'Dora the Explorer' was given away at a Chicago Cubs game on April 19, 2008.   Maybe the same, with '09' on the shirt this year?  We shall see.

Thanks for alerting everyone to the MC program ending.  I haven't received any notification yet but I followed the advice on your site and was able to redeem most of my points.  You should know that the phone number showing in your picture of available premiums cannot be used to redeem points.  You must use the 1-800-900-6651 customer service number listed on statements.  The rep I spoke with tried to get me to go to the Ty site to redeem points -- which of course isn't possible since it's a credit card premium.  Good luck to everyone!  Hope you're able to use most of your points.   "B & M"

On June14th, it was brought to our attention that Ty had removed the M.C. Beanie link from the main page of the site.   As an update, we have received additional information you may want to make note of.  If you are a Ty MasterCard holder, you may want to consider redeeming any points you may have accumulated.  If you have not received a letter, you may be getting something in the mail soon.  Dan of CA shares the following:

Got letter in the mail today from my TY mastercard
States that TY Inc. and Bank of America, the provider of your card,
have agreed to discontinue our relationship and the TY Rewards Credit Card program effective July 31, 2009

It goes on to state:
You will continue to earn TY Rewards when using your TY Mastercard Credit Card
 for purchases through your October 2009 Statement Closing Date
After that time, your account will no longer earn TY Rewards
You can redeem your TY Rewards for Available TY Merchandise through December 31, 2009
If you do not redeem your points by December 31, 2009, all earned Rewards will be forfeited
It also states, the 2009 MC Beanie IX Beanie Babies will not be produced, or available for redemption of TY rewards.
The annual Anniversary Premium VIII will not be produced or awarded
So, get those points redeemed while you can, since they will become invalid at the end of this year

 

Added Note:  Dan has extra Ty points to redeem, and has mentioned he will be happy to work something out
 with someone if they wish for any of the merchandise.  Just send me your email address, and I'll pass it along to Dan.

 ...  Live in Canada?  Do you Know .........
So what's happening with Teenie Beanies in Canada?  One of our Canadian readers writes the following:

Hi doodles,

It is still very unclear as to how many teenies will be in the Canadian set.  While we know the display case is 15 and it celebrates 15 years of happy meals, we don't know if there is only 15 toys or if there are 30 and the display case will change. We are currently on 7-9 at the local McD's.   Could you ask your readers if anyone has tried to contact the corporate McDonald's office to get some definitive info. I am away at the moment and can't do it myself but I am hoping that maybe someone has?

 ...  Chicago Cubs Giveaway
The Chicago Cubs played the Florida Marlins on May 2, 2009.  At that game, an "Exclusive Limited-Edition Cubs Go Diego 7" Plush" (Beanie Baby) was given away to the first 5,000 children 7 and under.  We were curious if this was a "Ty Plush" at the time; apparently it was.  Dan has shared photos of this give-away. and writes:

 ...  TBB 2009 Promotion - Info and Updates

Hi doodles,
I am just back from McDonald's. On Tuesday, no one knew anything about the promo. Today there are 15 in a display case near the counter. It is possible to buy the toy (in Alberta) for $1.79CAD plus tax, slightly under $2.00.  She was very apologetic that it is management's policy to only allow customers to purchase the first 6, with the others coming out when the others are finished. It is going to be a bit of a challenge and it reminds me of the old days. I have not opened a bag to see if there is tag variants (I was so shocked that six were able that I didn't think that I wanted one to open it up).

After checking your site last night and seeing all of the new beanies that had been added-I decided to do some further checking. I found that several Classics had been added to the list also. They are Barley a tan and white dog, Belvedere a real pretty cream colored bear with a plaid ribbon-this may be a re-release-I am not sure, Bo the dog, Bongo the orangutan, Champagne a real pretty white sitting cat, and Patches the guinea pig.

Following yesterday's news and while on the subject of TBB's, perhaps someone has an answer to one of our reader's questions ...

Hi Deb,   I have been meaning to ask you about this for a while. Do you know for sure that the 2000 American Trio of Libearty, Lefty, and Righty were available in Canada? I collect all of the different versions (even the ones with just slightly different packaging), and I have never seen a Canadian set. A Canadian set most likely would have the information printed in English and French, as the other teenies released in Canada do. If the trio was released in Canada, I need to add them to my wish list!   Thanks, Kathy

Back in February, we posted news of upcoming new Ty products we found on the Barnes & Noble website ... licensed 'characters from the 'Ni Hao, Kai-Ian' series.   (News on this subject is re-posted below in case you missed it.)   As you will notice, in March the posts on the Barnes & Noble site was removed and the products were no longer available.  Thanks to several of our readers who reminded us, following our news posting yesterday; these new products definitely appear to be the new licensed series Beanies (or Pluffies).   (Note:  A couple of the photos were unsuccessful transferred to the site yesterday; they should be visible now and can be viewed by clicking here.)

New Ty Products - Ni Hao, Kai-lan Series
Are you familiar with the Nickelodeon series "Ni Hao, Kai-lan"?   The Nick Jr website explains the Show as follows:

Ni Hao, Kai-lan is a play-along, think-along series that weaves together Chinese language and culture, preschool-relatable stories, and interactivity, with Kai-lan as your intimate friend and playmate!

The characters include:
Kai-lan Chow (an adventurous preschooler with a big heart)

Tolee (a 5-year-old panda-loving koala)
Hoho (a 3-year-old monkey)
Rintoo (a rambunctious 5-year-old tiger)
LuLu (a pink rhinoceros with a red balloon tied to her nose that allows her to fly)

Today the Barnes & Noble website lists the following characters listed as Ty products "available for pre-order; these items will be available on March 15".    I presume they are Pluffies, but we shall see (maybe with the March releases next week?)  There are currently no photos / images available.

 ...   New Products
 One of our readers has kindly shared some photos of Ty products, unidentifiable and yet to be announced.   Maybe Ty will also soon post (at least in the current listing on the site), new Beanies that have shown up and are not yet listed.  To name a few ... 'Rally Doodle Dandy' (giveaway at the Angels game), 'Hello Kitty Rock', 'Hello Kitty Retro', and two 'Hello Kitty Key-Clips' (UK),   An official announcement and posting on the site could  be REAL soon., along with a (possible) introduction of these new products.  Want to take a peek?  Then click on the link below to view  .... Dear Beanie Friends

 

COLLECTION FOR SALE!!

Over the years I’ve met so many wonderful people and will continue to stay in touch and answer questions even though I have made the decision to sell my Ty collection for financial reasons. I would love to keep the collection intact, but that doesn’t seem possible, so am taking steps to split it up.

 

Who will get Chef Robuchon, Coral Casino, #1 Bear, etc? I only have 1 of each of those. It’ll be an interesting sale and while I am sad at losing my collection, I am excited that other collectors will have a chance to add or complete their collections at this time.

 

As I have broken open all authenticated cases to be able to photograph them for the Ty Beanies Tracker books, I am in the process of arranging for Becky Estenssoro of True Blue Beans Inc. to re-examine and re-authenticate the rarer beanies.  I have taken the greatest care with my collection, many times wearing gloves when rearranging items so pressure hasn’t been in one place when sitting on a seat inside the case. I have put dessicants (silica gel caps) inside the case, and replaced it when indicated, as an added precaution, although it has been deemed unnecessary.

 

I will be consulting with Karen Boeker on prices to be fair to both myself and the buyer. Karen has been a dealer for many years and knows the current market trends, and able to take all the different factors into account.

 

More UPDATES TO TY BEANIES TRACKER  BOOK!!

I decided to do one more printing to bring everyone up-to-date through June 21st, 2009. Even the Beanie Boos are included. So, with the 3rd Edition book, the 1st set of updates, and now the 2nd set, you will have a photograph and record of ALL Ty products every produced to June 2009. These can be ordered via my website:

 ...   Rally Doodle Dandy Beanie Baby Giveaway
 July 2nd was the Los Angeles vs Baltimore Orioles game Beanie Baby giveaway at the Angel Stadium of Anaheim.  The Rally Doodle Dandy monkey was given to all fans in attendance to kick off the Patriotic weekend.  (Ty has not yet posted this Beanie on the website.)  Dan in California shares a photo of this Beanie, and writes:
