... Ssshhh
3:50 pm EST ... All is pretty quiet so far on this 'Halloween Eve'. But tomorrow may be a bit different, as the contest drawing and costume competition on Ty's site are almost over. Can we expect some Halloween retirements of Beanie Babies and Buddies as well? (September Birthday Bear is still 'current' also.) Many collectors anticipate some 'action' soon ... only tyme will tell. :)

... UK Bean Bag World Magazine - Update
6:20 pm EDT ... Online worldwide subscriptions may be just around the corner. Daphne, Editor of the magazine, notes the following on the Cyberboard:

From the Ty Cyberboard:
*hippity*hoppity* writes:
bean bag world finally appeared around here. i was never a huge fan of MBBBW, and only really bought this issue out of curiousity! but within the first few pages, i was hooked! daphne has already done a really great job! the value guide still needs work, but she seems to have a better idea over it than before. and the rest of the magazine was really great! the news was still slightly old, but thats to be expected! the articles were all really interesting, and i have read the whole magazine from cover to cover! the length is about the same, but there are less adverts, and more beanie stuff! and i get the feeling daphne and co are going to make it better and better! cant wait! :o)

DRBBW writes:
We're flattered, thank you!
There's even more to come - next month there's a big feature on Ty Europe's new markets, a look inside SOP Britannia, exclusive interview with the Ty-signed America winner, introducing Chubbleys, Friends through Beanies, Disney, more changes to the Buyers Guide (!!) and ... ????
Online subscription for collectors worldwide will be up very, very soon too
We listen to all ideas ... so please talk!
Daphne

... Ty Store - Japan (Update)!
11:35 am EDT ... The first anniversary of Ty Store in Japan (Yokohama Motomachi) is coming up ... the Store opened on November 3, 2000. It is rumored "there may be some events" in celebration of the one-year anniversary of the official opening ... perhaps the sale of the Black Batty Buddy? On October 16th, Kooler reported to us that a "Halloween pack" was being shipped to several retailers in Japan. 'Batty' Buddy (mocha color) could already be purchased; however, some stores apparently were to receive a limited quantity of 'Black Batty' Buddy (listed as a 'special'). Kooler further stated 'since there is only a few, it sells by drawing lots." He will visit Ty Store on November 3rd and keep us posted.

Added Note: (Oct 27 - 1:30 pm) A reader notes:
Hello I was reading your website on the black batty with red eyes, wanted to share that they arrived here in Okinawa Island Japan last weekend and are almost sold out on the Island. I believe the retailers 'had' 18 of them at least the one I was talking to did. Marie Shah

... Bongo Promo in Japan - Promo #3!
11:30 am EDT ... We first reported Exclusive news on July 21st, of the first Sports Promo in Japan. At that time, Kicks Beanie Baby was given out to the first 3,000 women and children who attended the Shimizu S-Pulse soccer game. There was no promotional tag, however a card did accompany the Kicks Beanie. On September 29th, the same soccer team again distributed a Sports Promo Beanie ... Quackers (given to the first 5,000 women and children) along with a similar card. Several pictures are shown in a Yahoo! Japan Auction showing both Beanies and their cards.

Ty Japan is now offering a 3rd Promo! '
Bongo' the monkey will be distributed in a game of the Yokohama F-Marinos (J-League). This Beanie Baby will be distributed to the first 15,000 women and children who attend the game of the 'F-Marinos' vs Antlers' on November 3, 2001. It is expected that a similar 'card' will accompany this Beanie as with the first two promos.
Click here to visit the Yokohama F-Marinos website

... Thanks to Kooler of Bean Book - Japan for sharing this news from Japan with us. Looks like November 3rd will be a busy day there ! :)

... 'Kirby' with Different Ribbons?
Speaking of variations, to confuse us more, 'Kirby' the new terrier Beanie, is showing up with different ribbon prints? Heather of The Daily Bean has taken various images from different sources and compares them at the following link:
Click here to view the ribbon comparisons

Added Note: I'm not convinced that there are ribbon variations with this Beanie. As many of you know, lighting on a photograph can make a big difference in the appearance of a Beanie, etc. (The image on Ty's site is a graphic and hard to compare.) I have posted a picture sent by Norma, with two photos taken of the same Kirby Beanie ... flash and no flash. To check out the comparison, click here.

... A Litter of Many Pups!
After the posting last night regarding Jinglepup, I overcame my confusion and headed for some rest. (Visions of Dizzys and Jinglepups were dancing in my head though!) Then, it started all over again this morning, with yet another version (#4) having been found ... in Singapore. This one is like the 'Canadian version', however with a green-tip tail. Ms Janie has posted a picture of this version, which can be found by clicking here. (I think I need to go back to bed!)

Summary:
USA version ........... green trim hat, white-tip tail
USA and UK pictures
UK version ............. green trim hat, green-tip tail
(see above)
Canada version ...... white trim hat, white-tip tail
Canada picture
Singapore version ... white trim hat, green-tip tail

... Oh My! ... Yet Another Jinglepup Variation (#3)
11:40 pm EDT ... Jinglepup first appeared with a white-tip tail, and supposedly the only 'version' (so far) in the U.S. However, the U.K. received this cute little puppy with a green-tip tail. Many collectors pondered the thought of maybe a red-tip tail to follow, perhaps in Canada. Well, a different version has shown up in Canada, BUT this time with a change in the 'rim' color of his hat. The rim on the hat (on Ty's site and the one's found so far in the U.S. and U.K.) is green; a version found in Canada shows the rim color is white! Ms Janie has posted a picture of this newest variation.
Click here to view a picture

Note: Maybe this is why Ty first posted Jinglepup as a US Exclusive, but later changed it. The 'version' shown was the one showing up in the U.S. with the white-tip tail, green trim hat ... The U.S., U.K. and Canada each have their own "exclusive/variation" pup now? Hmmm

... Beani and Kirby - Birthday and Poems
5:20 pm EDT ... A reader has reported finding Beani and Kirby Beanie Babies today. Barbara notes the following:

Hi Doodle ... I couldn't believe it when I walked in my favorite retailer's store today. I picked up 4 of the Jingle Beanies, Jinglepup, and Mistletoe ... AND she also had Beani and Kirby. I am NEVER a first to find Beanies. In case you didn't know, I have noted the birthdays and poems for them. (Wonder why some birthdays are 2000 and others 2001???) Anyway, just wanted to share. Love your site ... I check it throughout the day! Take care. Barbara

Beani
Birthday ... July 26, 2000
Why is my name Beani the cat?
It is funny you should ask me that.
My owner loves her beanies so
She wanted the whole world to know.

Kirby
Birthday ... May 5, 2001
Prancing in the icy snow
I put on quite a funny show
Slipping and sliding all around
I hope my paws stay on the ground!

Added Note: 10:10 pm - Ms Janie has posted pictures of these two newbies on her site. You can view them by clicking here.

... Country Exclusive Ty Attics
With the introduction of the new Japan Exclusive Attic Treasure 'Kyoto' yesterday, I thought it was interesting to view the similarities of this bear with 'Tudor' (UK), 'Rhine' (Germany), and 'Logan' (Canada). ... Mistletoe's Poem and Birthday
11:05 pm EDT ... Update
Sally writes:
Hi Deb: It's true! Mistletoe showed up today at my favorite retailer, along with the Jingle Beanies (they are all TOO cute and well worth the money). Can't wait to hang them on my Christmas tree. By the way, Mistletoe's birthday is December 18, 2000. Now I just have to find Beani the cat! Keep up the good work, and thanks for keeping all us Beanie 'finatics' updated on all the latest news. Sally

10:15 pm EDT ... It seems that Mistletoe and Beani are the slowest of the latest releases to show up at retailers. (Of course, around here, I haven't seen ANY of them YET!) Although unconfirmed, a collector on the Ty Cyberboard has posted as finding Mistletoe and reports the poem below:

Mistletoe's Poem
isoglory writes:
As you may know, not all beanies carry a good poem. Some have errors in grammer and many just don't seem to rhyme very well. I found Mistletoe today and I am quite impressed with her well structured poem. It says, "If you see some mistletoe, take a chance and stand below. The custom is that if you do, you might just get a kiss or two."

... Ty / Japan - Update
1:30 am EDT ...
Quackers Promo in Japan (pics)
We first reported Exclusive news on July 21st of the first Sports Promo in Japan. Japan Auction showing both Beanies and their cards, if you wish to take a peek.

Black Batty Appearing?
Speaking of Japan, apparently a "Halloween pack" is being shipped to several retailers there. 'Batty' Buddy (mocha color) can be purchased in Japan; however, some stores will apparently receive a limited quantity of 'Black Batty' Buddy, listed as a 'special'. 'Kooler' states 'since there is only a few, it sells by drawing lots'. (Sounds familiar, don't you think?)

Thanks to Kooler of Bean Book - Japan for sharing this news with us.

... Holiday Teddy Tags
1:05 am EDT ... Cynthia writes:
Hi Doodle ... I read on your newspage last Wednesday, the 10th, that you noticed the 2000 and 2001 Holiday Teddy's both share the same birth'date' ... December 24, 2000. I hadn't noticed that, but after checking, you're right, both my tags read the same date! What's also interesting is that 1997 Holiday Teddy has a birthdate of 12/25/96. However, 1998 Holiday Teddy has a birthdate of 12/25/98; 1999 Holiday Teddy has a birthdate of 12/25/99. So there's no continuity here ... some Beanies I guess are just introduced before their born LOL ... Cynthia

Doodle's comment ... Yes, Cynthia, it is a bit confusing. And I AM surprised that two Holiday Teddy's have the SAME birthday. Now, there's no Holiday Teddy with a 1997 or 2001 date ... perhaps that will change? or shall we just wait until next year? :)

... Beanie Halloween 'Dress-up" Contest?
As I noted a few days ago, a "Halloweenie Beanie" Contest was posted on Ty's website on October 19th last year. Several Beanie Babies were all decked out in Halloween costumes; viewers had a chance to vote on their favorite one. The winner was announced on October 31st, along with the runner-up Beanies. Several readers have asked if I remembered who they were:

Halloween Costume Contest Results (10/31/00)
1st place ... Lips as Big Mouth Lippy Bass - 45.08%
2nd place ... Angel as Miss Beanie Kid - 43.24%
3rd place ... Rover as Yummy Ty Bones Bag - 4.61%

(This information can be found in the Archived News Section on this site; however, the link on Ty's site has been removed.)

Prior to that (in October 1999) 'Fuzz as Snowman' won.

Perhaps Ty will post another 'dress-up contest' shortly. The Info Beanie has been making several hints lately anyway!

Sshhh .... All is quiet today (at least momentarily). It's a 'lazy rainy-day Sunday ... I wonder if Hallmark misses me today? Perhaps a quick trip out to resolve the 'antsyness'! We MUST find those Christmas Beanies and Buddies soon. :)

When listening to President Bush's speech a couple of nights ago, he suggested that children across America and around the world send $1.00 to the White House for food and medical assistance to help the children in Afghanistan ... a child helping a child. If you didn't get a chance to jot down the address, Jolly Janie has listed it for you:

... Newsflash - New Ty Introductions!
6:15 pm EDT ... Ty has introduced 'Rescue' and 'Courage' Beanie Babies this afternoon - 100% of Ty's profits from the original purchase of these Beanie Babies will be donated to The New York Police and Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund. (Looks like our thoughts posted earlier this morning were on the right track anyway.) Way to go, Ty! and Thank You!
Click here for Ty's announcement of 'Rescue'
Click here for Ty's announcement of 'Courage'

The poem for both reads:
To honor our heroes
who lost their lives in the
national catastrophe that
took place on September 11, 2001..
We mourn for them and express our
deepest sympathies to their families.
God Bless America

... UK News Update
1:05 pm EDT ... A reader from the UK writes:
Hi Deb ... It looks like Dizzy #4 version will be a pretty common Beanie here, perhaps not as rare as many first thought. It is appearing in the UK deliveries now and even the secondary auction sellers are selling it for approximately $10 - that price in itself proves it's not a rare version. Unity Buddy seems to be appearing in quantities on the auctions, and not cheap either. There are still no signs of the America Bear yet though. ... Peter

... 'Jinglepup' Variations
10:15 am EDT ... With the recent variations of Beanies, such as Patriot and Dizzy, I guess it shouldn't surprise us that Jinglepup has shown up with a variation as well. (And remember Roxy last Christmas?) This cute Christmas 'puppy' is now starting to appear with a green tipped tail (well, at least in the UK anyway) ... instead of a white tipped one. Will a red tipped one be next? Hmmmm
Jinglepup (white-tipped tail) on Ty's website

Note: A green- tipped version photo can be viewed on Ms Janie's site by clicking here

Updated 11:40 am EDT ... Here's an interesting idea ... another thought to ponder anyway (remember when Jinglepup was first announced, it was listed as a "USA Exclusive", and sported a white tail!):

From the Ty Cyberboard:
Just a crazy thought about the Jinglepup variations...
*Canadian*beanie*lover* (09:36 am. Oct 12, 2001 )
I'm half-wondering if ty is going to release a third version with a red tail... it makes sense, right? I've read that the only people getting the green tail are the U.K... perhaps he'll make this only available in the U.K. Maybe back early when they said the Jingle pup (white tail) was a U.S exclusive... they weren't mistaken... the white-tailed one could be a U.S exclusive... and then the red tail could be a Canadian exclusive?! Wouldn't that be awesome? lol...

... What's Next?
1:05 am EDT ... With the already introduced holiday products by Ty, many are wondering what could be next. After pondering this thought for a while, and reading Ty's response in the 'Ask Ty' section of the site (see below) ... just a thought here. Maybe a fireman Beanie? policeman? doctor? or celebrity signed Americas? These are not rumors, just some interesting ideas. (A Beanie with a fireman hat/patch, etc. would be quite unique, though ... to follow along with the 'America' Disaster Relief Fund 'campaign' anyway.) As Ty said, just keep your eye on ty.com !

... 'Ask Ty' Q & A
4:40 pm EDT ... The next 'Ask Ty' question and answer has been posted, along with your chance to vote for the next question you would like Ty Warner to answer.

Q
: How many America Beanies will you sign? Will you have other celebrity signed auctions as well? (submitted by BelleofLouisville)
A: The AMERICA Bear that was auctioned off to support the Red Cross will be the last that I personally sign. Because of the Bear's great success in raising money I am considering introducing something new and special in the near future. Keep your eye on . . . . Ty.com !

... UK 'Bean Bag World' Magazine Hits the Newstands

12:40 am EDT ... Daphne sends us an email with news of the first issue of the UK 'Bean Bag World' Magazine ...
"As the only bean bag collectable magazine worldwide, at Bean Bag World we're eager to strive to develop the magazine to make it what collectors want and need. ...There are a lot of exciting features planned for the magazine in future months.  A particularly exciting one (I think, anyway!) is a big feature on Ty Europe's new markets ... we have the scoop on this for the December isuue (out early November in the UK). We're not only covering Ty products: there will be information and features on all sorts of bean bag products, including Disney, the brand new bears from Chubbley Bears, exciting new Celebrity Bears, Treasured Pals ... and so many more excellent manufacturers. ... Competitions will (be) featured each month with exclusive items to be won.  We even have special limited edition toys signed by the designers!  I shall say no more. Daphne Roberts"

Subscribers have already received their copies; the reviews are GREAT. Ms Janie has posted additional information you may wish to check out ... Read what you can expect to find in this month's issue of the magazine by clicking here. (You'll probably recognize some names there as well. <blush>)
View the front cover of the November issue here

Daphne also notes: I've had a number of emails from people in the USA and Canada asking about availablity of the magazine.  Unfortunately at the moment there's little definite to report.  We would, of course, be pleased to hear from any potential distributors in any country throughout the world. There's a lot of collectors out there and it's only the UK collectors who have this magazine at the moment.

... Have you noticed?
5:20 pm EDT ... While going through the Beanie Baby / Birthdays today, I noticed the 2000 and 2001 Holiday Teddy both share the same birth'date' ... December 24, 2000. Just a little something I found interesting!

... Celebrity Bears - News
5:10 pm EDT ... The Fall 2001 Newsletter has just been released. Have you seen the latest? "The Wizard of Basketball" - Celebrity Bear Star #9 has come out of retirement and will be available in November; he is now a new 'Wizard' Bear. This new bear has a basketball embroidered on his front and wears a wizard hat and royal blue cape with "His Airness Returns" embroidered on it. ... Travel Slump Halts Luxury Hotel Sales
Wednesday October 10, 2001
The Guardian
The sale of two of London's most glamourous hotels is almost certain to be shelved in the wake of the atrocities in the United States and ensuing attacks on Afghanistan. The news comes as data shows that the capital's hoteliers are experiencing a 20% drop in occupancy since September 11.
The property that once boasted guests such as Emperor Napoleon III and Mark Twain, has been up for sale since August. But the terrorist attacks and the subsequent fall in visitor numbers - especially Americans - means few investors have an appetite for premium hotel properties.
Jones Lang is this week meeting the Lanesborough's owners, the family-run Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. Its auction, which went live in March, is understood to have attracted the interest of Syrian-born investor Simon Halabi, Hyatt hotels, Italian luxury goods firm Bulgari and Beanie Babes billionaire
Ty Warner, who paid £105m for the Four Seasons hotel in Santa Barbara, California.

... Attic Treasure 'Chillings' Tag Info
Chillings, along with Weatherby, have arrived in south central PA! Chillings tag line reads, "Snow News Is Good News!" This guy is most definitely a snowman with ears (the first nonanimal Attic Treasure) and not a bear dressed as a snowman. He has a "coal" mouth, a carrot nose, and black buttons on his body. There are no paw pads on his "hands". His plush is very soft and  has white sparkling threads throughout. It really looks like snow. The quality and detail of this $5 Attic are unbelievable.

... 'Dizzy' Beanie Variation #4 - Update
2:40 pm EDT ... Clarification has been made regarding the newest variation of the Dizzy Beanie, which several collectors have questioned. There IS a 4th version (recently showing up in the UK) .... Dizzy Variations:
Dizzy #1 - black spots, black ears, red collar
Dizzy #2 - blue and purple spots, black ears, checked ribbon
Dizzy #3 - blue and purple spots, one blue ear/one purple ear, checked ribbon
Dizzy #4 - black spots, one blue ear/one purple ear, checked ribbon

... Plush Life for Young Entrepreneur
9:55 am EDT ... Although non-'Beanie Baby' related, reading this article amazed me ... a young girl at the age of 8 began selling 'PewterBabies' - and look what has evolved since then.

news-observer.com ... By Carlene Hempel, Staff Writer
RALEIGH - When Morgan McHugh launched PuterBabies, a dot-com that sells tiny stuffed animals to sit atop computer monitors, she had no idea about marketing plans, how to find a Web master, even what were reasonable shipping and handling prices. Of course, she was only 8 then. Today, the fifth-grader -- 11 since Wednesday -- has a full product line, a marketing campaign, steady online sales and a speaking circuit that includes giving advice to other, older entrepreneurs -- high schoolers.

... 'Jingle Beanie' Size Comparison
A reader has sent Ms. Janie some photos of the Jingle Beanies, comparing their size to Buddies, Beanies, and Teenie Beanies. Apparently they are about the height of the Teenie Beanies, but made of Beanie material and fuller. They have hang tags and holographic tush tags like regular Beanies, except the hang tag reads "Jingle Beanies". For more information, check out the following link:

5:30 pm EDT ... At $24,000 (111 bids), the Ty-signed 'America' Beanie Baby auction on eBay has ended. As you know, it was an 'Auction for America' listing; eBay will forward the winning bidder's payment to the American Red Cross. The winning bidder ... RyeByPost.

... 'Ask Ty' Q & A
3:30 pm EDT ... The next 'Ask Ty' question and answer has been posted, along with your chance to vote for the next question you would like Ty Warner to answer.

Q
: How did TY begin ? (submitted by Sam V)
A: I felt that if I wanted to start my own company I would have to design and manufacture a unique well-made gift item that didn’t already exist in the marketplace. In 1985 I took out a 2nd mortgage on my 2-bedroom condo in order to purchase my first shipment. What followed . . . . even surprised me ! !

... Beanie Halloween 'Dress-up" Contest
As I noted as couple of days ago, on October 19, 2000, A "Halloweenie Beanie" Contest was posted on Ty's website.

Note Prior to that (in October 1999) 'Fuzz as Snowman' won. Perhaps Ty will post another 'dress-up contest' shortly. The Info Beanie has been made several hints lately anyway!

... Snowball Buddy?
Was the recently introduced Snowball Buddy a real surprise to some? Noting a past post in the archives (10/27/00) on this site, I was reminded of 'Black Batty Buddy' reportedly showing up a few times with a "Snowball Buddy" hangtag. Although I don't recall an actual picture being posted, it's something interesting to think about anyway.

... Retirements?
Many of us are wondering who and when the next retirements will be. One thing we do 'expect' ... September Birthday Bear. Perhaps soon? We shall see.

... Ty-Signed 'America' Beanie - "One of a Kind"
10:25 am EDT ... The Ty-Signed 'America' Auction ends today at 14:28 PDT (5:28 pm EDT). Currently it is at $24,000 with 111 bids. RyeByPost has the current winning bid. However, with only 7 hours left to go, things could change rapidly during this time.

It looks like this signed Bear will be 'one of a kind'. Yesterday, RyeByPost asked Ty:
Q: hi, can you please inform me as to whether or not this bear is numbered 1 of 1 as this will obviously make the bear unique and eliminate the possibility of another signed America bear appearing later. Many thanks sam ps. i am really interested in purchasing this bear but am worried about others appearing later.
A: The America Beanie Baby currently up for auction on Ebay will be one of a kind. There will be no number on this particular Bear.
