A new 'Ask Ty' question and answer has been posted on Ty's site:
Q: On Halloween do you pass out candy or Beanies at your house? (submitted by beatlebeanie)
A: For the past several years I've missed the tricker treaters due to traveling or being at the office. I remember 6 or 7 years ago I gave out Chocolate . . . the moose. I'll never forget the smiles and all the fun I had that Halloween !

... Small, Soft Dolls' Faces Hooked Head Bank Teller
BY LISA COONEY
Correspondent
Republicanherald.com

FRACKVILLE - Patrons at the Frackville branch of Minersville Safe Deposit Bank & Trust Co. know of her hobby.

Karen A. Sakowski, Shenandoah Heights, the head teller, is what fellow collectors call a "BB Mom."

That is, she collects Ty Inc. Beanie Babies.

And throughout the year, she rotates portions of her more than 550 Beanies to decorate the bank lobby.

"I generally change them every two weeks," she said recently. "It's amazing, really. People come in looking forward to seeing what ones are next."

For example, during the Independence Day holiday, the display featured red, white and blue beanies, followed by two sets of dogs to denote "the dog days of summer."

The beginning of autumn brought out various brown bears - in the wild and in the bank lobby.

... Why Three Clubby VI Beanies?
Why did Ty introduce three Clubby VI Beanie Babies this year?  Perhaps the most logical theory can be found on the Ty Cyberboard.  This is the 10th year of Beanie Babies, and Ty has celebrated it in various ways.  In addition to the different colors of Decade Beanies, Ty has perhaps ended this 10th decade by representing each style of bear in the BBOC set ... old face, new face, and 'pooh' style.  Makes for some sound logic to us anyway!

... Second 'Bears, Beans and Collectables' Show in England
Daphne emails us with the following:
With under two weeks to go to the second Bears, Beans and Collectables Show in Chester, England, I'm wondering where the time has gone!

It may be a bit early, on 9 November, but this time it's a Christmas themed event, with not only plenty of bears and Beanies of all kinds for sale, but also some great charity angles:

The original Ty Europe Christmas tree has, kindly, been loaned to us and we're using it to raise funds, with CHERISH, for Cancer Research UK. Also for the same excellent cause, Sue is linking up with the Chubbleys to sell limited ediiton special bears, with the extra delight for visitors of being able to have their bears signed by designer, Darren

Santa is coming, although I have to convince him that his sleigh will NOT fit through the doors (you may think I'm joking on this one, but it's true!)  Thanks to generous manufacturers, who've donated a mass of toys for Santa's Show Sack, every penny will go to support the fantastic Round Table's Childrens Wish organisation.  More info on this at
www.rtcw.org

As well as Beanies, Chubbleys, Steiff, Russ, Gund and other bears, there are individually made artists' bears, dolls houses, handmade bear chairs, cards and candles (could you really burn those?) ... collectors cards, pins, BBCM back issues and a mass of things that I'm sure people have forgotten to mention ... even a large rocking horse - what better place than Chester Racecourse to see a horse, anyway?  We've arranged for free old bear valuations and Yu-Gi-Oh duels, too ... not forgetting the spot prizes that will spring up throughout the day for no particular reason, apart from helping to make our visitors even happier

The free children's activities went down an absolute treat last time and they're back this time - with a Christmas theme, of course, which just has to include a lot of glitter and stars ... poor carpets!

The Show starts at 10.00 am and will run until 3.30. Child entry is free, whilst all adults will pay just £1.50

Sorry if I went on a bit - that's an abridged version as well!  Even more detail can be found at
www.chestershow.com

Regards, Daphne

... More on 'Stardust'
The 'Bears and Beans' website shares additional information on the Harrod's UK Exclusive.  The bear's name is 'Stardust' ... a Ty Classic.

Daphne writes:  "He is not a Beanie .... Harrods describes him as a 'proper bear'.  His name is Stardust.  He's creamy, with brown bits giving a furry effect, soft fur plusy.  Wars a gold neck ribbon with bow.  On his foot he has 'Harrods Toy Kingdom by Ty'.  Retail price of £12.95.  In a limited edition, we gather, with only 500 being made available on the day.  The total l/e of 3000 is being quoted, but we've not had that confirmed officially.  He can be ordered by phone but NOT until 1 November.  Harrods will be strict on this.

... New 'Ask Ty' Q & A
A new 'Ask Ty' question and answer has been posted:
Q: In short, can you explain the process to create a Beanie? Which one took you the longest? (submitted by NoDoubtLuver)
A: Beanies begin their life as a pencil sketch, or a watercolor and sometimes even a doodle. Prototypes are made from the sketches and are tweaked until I feel they are the best they can be. Of all the Beanies introduced this month, Chillin' was my biggest challenge.

Click here to visit 'Ask Ty'

(Ah, Ty likes to 'doodle', too! <smile>)

... A 'Star' to be Born Soon?
Ms. Janie has posted a picture of a 'possible' new Beanie Baby ... a white bear with wings, holding a gold star.  Earlier this year, on August 9th, Sly reported to Ms. Janie of a Ty trademark registration application ... 'Star', listed as 'plush toys' as the goods and services.  Perhaps this is the new 'Star'?

... News from Japan - Nippon Professional Baseball Beanie
Our friend Rin Asano, from Beans Tokyo, writes us with news of the 'Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) limited edition Beanie Baby.  This promo bear is a 'Sizzle' Beanie Baby, decked out in NPB Nippon Series 2003 attire.  At last check, this Bear was available for purchase at NPB's official Shop but is only available to ship in Japan.

Doodle's Note:  One of our articles in 'Bean Bag & Collectables' Magazine' (on 'Ty Japan') highlighted all the past Beanie promos (soccer, etc.) in Japan up until that date.  This is definitely another interesting promo worth adding to the list :)  Thanks for sharing, Rin!

(Added note:  The magazine was known as 'Bean Bag World' in February 2002, when the article 'Big in Japan' was written.)

Q: Do you design all the Beanies for the whole year at one time or do you plan just a few? (submitted by galute)

LET'S MAKE A DOLL: HARLEM PLANS MUSEUM

October 13, 2003 -- Madame Alexander dolls, the haughty high-fashion collectibles coveted by divas like Oprah Winfrey, Demi Moore, Britney Spears, will soon be more accessible.

The venerable doll company plans to open a museum in November at its Harlem headquarters, featuring its most influential models and historical creations, among them a Scarlett O'Hara doll, its "Wizard of Oz" line, nursery-rhyme characters like the Three Little Pigs and its famous Alex dolls - which have their own fantasy jobs and storylines.

... Press Release - PR Newswire - Ty Warner Donates $6.3 Million
Andre Agassi's Eighth All-Star Celebrity Gala Raises $12.6 Million for At-Promise Children
LAS VEGAS, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Andre Agassi and a superstar lineup of entertainers took the stage Saturday evening at the Grand Slam for Children presented by Aramis and Designer Fragrances to benefit at-promise youth organizations in Southern Nevada. The Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation (AACF) raised $12.6 million during the weekend benefit, which featured a black-tie VIP dinner, live auction and sold-out concert held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. More than 6,300 fans crowded the facility Saturday night to see Sheryl Crow, Billy Joel, Sir Elton John, Dennis Miller, Robin Williams, along with surprise appearances by Sarah McLachlan and Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal of the legendary musical group, Tears for Fears. Grammy Award-winning producer David Foster served as the musical coordinator for the eighth year.

The evening was highlighted by the unexpected donation by Ty Warner, the mastermind behind the Beanie Babies' phenomenon. Warner, the founder and chairman of Ty, Inc., matched the initial $6.3 million raised earlier in the evening, bringing the total fundraising efforts to $12.6 million. "Once again, I am overwhelmed by the ongoing support the Grand Slam for Children receives each year from fellow Las Vegans, national business leaders like Ty Warner and the entertainment industry," Agassi said. "It is gratifying to know that the money we raised tonight will directly benefit children who require our immediate assistance."
