 ...   November Releases (and Retirements?)
I can't believe November is almost here.  (Where did October go?)  As a new month approaches, we typically can expect some new announcements by Ty.  (I don't 'expect' many retirements; at least, that hasn't been the trend so far this year.  But we shall soon see!

(In the meantime, I'm still working on the website ... updating  lists, adding new pages, etc.)  Enjoy!

...   October (Holiday) Releases - Photos
Our special thanks to Jason of TN, who shares the following:

Hey Deb,   I got a phone call today from the manager at my local Walgreens and she told me that she had some new boxes of TY in that she had not opened yet and asked if I wanted to come down and see what they had.  It was the new Oct releases of the Holiday beanies and Baby Beanies.  The box with the beanies in it included Mr. Snow, Ms. Snow, Chestnut and Icebox.  Brutus the dog was not in the box.  The 2nd box was the Baby Beanies and included Tinsel, Alpine, Snowcap, Divine and Yummy.  The box did not have Stripes the dog in it.  Strange that all came in with the exception of these two.

Some points of interest on these beanies is the cap on Ms. Snow's head is the same material used with Surfin' the octopus and the tush tags on both the beanies and baby beanies.  The tush tags are much smaller now and are made out of very heavy vinyl material.   Jason of TN

...   A Bit of Nostalgia - BBOC Trading Cards
Long time Beanie Baby collectors will recall the year Ty started the BBOC Trading Cards.  This phenomenon started in October 1998, with Series I, II, III, and IV.  Although these cards are no longer in circulation, you can occasionally see them on auction sites or personal sales.  There were special cards that card collectors searched for.  For example, in Series IV, "The End" card was signed by Ty Warner and limited to 400.  The front of the card has 'The End' printed in color, the back shows the introduction date (8-31-99), retirement date (12-31-99), the style # (4265), card # (321), and the poem,

I have posted information on each Series, which can be viewed at the links listed below.  (A checklist will soon follow).

Beanie Babies Collector Cards Series I
Beanie Babies Collector Cards Series II
Beanie Babies Collector Cards Series III
Beanie Babies Collector Cards Series IV

... This information has been kindly offered by Ryan Connell, ex-webmaster of the Colletiblez website.  We thank him for sharing this info, a nice reference for those who may pursue needed information for their collection.

 ...   Inaugural's Retirement?
One of our readers, Sandra, writes:

Hi Doodle, Don't you think 'Inaugural" the NY Yankees game Exclusive, should be retired now  :D  Typically in the past the game exclusives were introduced and retired the same day.  The announcement is still on Ty's main page.  Then again, nothing much has retired lately anyway.  I sure miss the old days with official announcements and retirements!!!  Lots of fun memories on a dissolving hobby.  Maybe Inaugural will just mosey on over to the retired list soon.  Thanks from Sandra

 ...   'Volley' Beanie Baby (Sale)
If you wish to buy the U.S. Open 2009 'Volley' Beanie Baby, now's your chance to get one at a sale price.  Thanks to alert readers (Leon and Sondra), who share the following:

Hello Deb,  The US Open store just announced a two-week sale. Their exclusive Ty bear Volley that sold previously for $10 is now on sale for $4.99. This is probably a good chance for collectors who don't have Volley to pick him up for a reasonable price.  Leon and Sondra

 ...   Shampoodle (cont...)
Last Friday we posted  info that a reader shared on the 'Shampoodle' Beanie Baby.  I'm still a bit confused as it was reported that all Shampoodles were being recalled due to safety issues with the fur falling out (choking hazard).  We received the following email (with photos) below:

Jason of TN writes:

Hey Deb,  I was out and about today after work and stopped into one of my usual beanie shops and well, to my surprise, they had half a dozen Shampoodles sitting on the table.  This is a store that gets items from other department stores that can't sell all their items.  They get TY beanies almost weekly in.  She told me that Shampoodle came in about 4 weeks ago, but she just got around to putting them out around 4 days ago.  I went ahead and helped myself to them and thought I would take some pics of a few of them.  This is the same one that was recalled by TY.  The hair is VERY easy to pull out.  Without any force, you can use two fingers and locks of hair just slide right out.  I'm really interested in where these little ones are coming from.  As you can see from the pictures, the beanie is very well made.  Even has cute little pink bows over the ears and sparkles in the nose.  I can't find it on any checklist out there or even on the TY site.  If anyone has any information on this little one, can you please have them send it to you and post it to your site.  I love a good TY mystery!   Jason in TN

...   "Scooby-Doo: The Mystery Begins" Movie (with Ty Scooby Doo Plush)
On Ty's website you may have noticed the 'Scooby-Doo' video, which includes the movie trailer "Scooby-Doo: The Mystery Begins".  Want to purchase this movie, along with Ty's Scooby-Doo?  As a reminder, on September 27th we posted the following:

One of our readers, Susie S., shares the following from her recent purchase at WalMart:

Scooby Soo the Mystery begins Walmart  $21.35 only ...
All new live action scooby doo movie ty plush mystery begins  dvd  $21.35 Sept23/09   I have mine.

Doodle's note:  Thanks for sharing, Susie.  After a bit a research, I also came up with the following:  Available on DVD ... "Scooby-Doo: The Mystery Begins" - along with a Ty Scooby-Doo Plush.  Click here to view on amazon.com

Added note:  10-12-09  I'm sure there are other choices / stores where this movie / plush is available ... these are just a couple that we came across.

 ...   2009 - Releases vs Retirements
After looking at the Ty Releases this year (specifically Beanie Babies), there appears to be some needed retirements soon.  There have been approximately 80 Beanie Babies introduced this year; only about 10 retirements.  (A list can be seen on the main page of this site.)   (Maybe I missed a few ... silent retirements can be tough to catch sometimes.  But thought it interesting.  :)

 ...   Beanie Boos
As you know, often there are similarities in various 'plush' products.  Below is an interesting comparison of a Beanie Boo.  One of our readers shares the following:

We were browsing the Toyota dealer parts store today while waiting for our car to be serviced. Our attention was captured by what appeared to be a box full of Boos on one of the shelves. Imagine; Boos in a Toyota parts store. But to my surprise they weren't Boos. They turned out to be YooHoo's. The similarity is striking. I attached a side-by-side photo of a Boo and YooHoo.

 ...   Shampoodle
One of our readers shares the following ...

I stopped at a store called (store name removed)  and found what I thought was a very hard to find beanie, Shampoodle the black poodle which I thought the TY company recalled. I also emailed a very reliable source to ask about rarity of this black dog. Anyway I stopped at a different (store name removed) store and they also had these beanies in stock.  I live in Texas. I am wondering if Shampoodle is rare or whether he has been redone, the black hair still comes out when pulled on.  I am also wondering if this dog is only in our stores in the Texas area or all over the country. I have seen no Shampoodles on ebay. Thanks

Doodle's note: ... Thanks for sharing.  Interesting as I have not heard of any Shampoodle Beanie Babies being seen anywhere since they were "recalled".

Added note: ... 10/11 - One of our readers comments:

Hi Doodle, About the shampoodle...Ty doesn't allow the sale on ebay, that's why you don't see auctions for it...they get pulled. Shampoodle is a safety issue and public sale is forbidden. I think it was an error that a Ty rep left some with a retailer in Texas. All were recalled as I understand it because of the choking hazard with the fur falling out.

 ...   Assorted?  ... Cont.
Adding to our news yesterday, maybe we have an answer.  Tanya writes:

Hello Doodle,  The word " assorted "  for  Mr Snow / Ms Snow beanies, means,  in a pack of 6, you get 3 Mr Snow and 3 Ms Snow. This is how they are arriving in England.   Tanya

Friday, October 2

 ...   Assorted?
You probably noticed, with yesterday's releases by Ty ... there are four Beanie Babies (two "pair") that are noted as "assorted".  We are unsure as to the exact meaning, but tyme will tell.  My thought initially was an "assorted" variety of these Beanies, not pairs - ie out of 12, maybe four of one and eight of the other.  Below are a few of the emails we have received from collectors with their thoughts  ...
